The Vapid Winky is a light utility vehicle (LUV) that was cut from Grand Theft Auto V during development, later returning to Grand Theft Auto Online as part of The Cayo Perico Heist update.
Description[]
Grand Theft Auto V[]
Not much was known about the vehicle or what it looked like, other than a handling line in the files that suggests a relatively small vehicle, which had a slow top speed of 105 km/h (65 mph), a 4WD drivetrain and a mass of 2,000 kgs (4,409 lbs).[1]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
The Winky is officially introduced to Grand Theft Auto Online in The Cayo Perico Heist update.
Influence[]
The Winky adopts the appearance of a heavy, military off-road vehicle based on the Willys MB and Ford GPW, with styling cues taken from the Ford M151 and the Willys M38A1.
Design[]
The front of the vehicle is relatively small and features an extended steel bumper that is part of the chassis, while the bodywork features horizontal grille separations, circular headlights and a desert cooling surge tank on the driver side. The hood is relatively small and features rubber details around the front and visible hinges near the windshield.
The sides make use of linear formations for the front fenders and the rear wheel wells, as well as step bars on the rear section and thin frames on the upper borders. The driver side features a single circular rear-view mirror that is mounted on a lower frame and a set of tools commonly seen on off-road/military vehicles, along with marker lights on the rearmost sections. The cabin area makes use of a slanted wall with a split windshield. Although not interactive in any way, the same windshield features a rubber base and thin frames with a pivot on the sides, which would theorically allow the user to fold down and rest on the hood rubber details, together with thin handles on the upper sides and safety hooks on the cabin compartment to fold up back to its position.
The rear end is predominated by the spare wheel on the right side of the bed and a fuel canister on the left, the latter attached to it with a yellow strap. There is a set of outer circular lights and inner split lights, as well as a small utility bumper with the license plate on it.
The underside area is rather unique, featuring an exposed chassis, visible engine bay and leaf suspension arms. There is a protective plate covering the transfer case and both axles have off-set differentials (an arrangement similar to the Bodhi). An exhaust pipe runs through the driver-side area and exits to the left, with the muffler located just above the rear axle.
The vehicle uses a set of "Dominator" dials on the center of the dashboard, arranged in a way that the large speedometer is located on the center and the four smaller gauges beside it. It also features a set of switches/buttons around the dashboard and what seems to be the vehicle's specifications plate on the passenger side. It uses brown seats with exposed frames on the back, and the bed features and additional larger seat for a third occupant.
The vehicle is only painted with a single color and uses a set of plain rims with a detail on the center, wrapped in medium-profile tires. The rims of the vehicle can also support a dedicated color that also affects the spare wheel, although only examples from the Content Creator and from missions may have one.
Extra lamps fitted to the vehicle are fully-functional, with the exception of the blackout lamp on the left fender from the "Blackout Fenders" modification.

Performance[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
The Winky has sub-par perfomance, with its top speed being akin to most trucks and vans. While the vehicle's acceleration can be improved at a Los Santos Customs, the vehicle remains impractical for quick getaways.
The vehicle is powered by a 4-cylinder engine and coupled to a 5-speed gearbox, in a front engine, all wheel drive layout with a power distribution of 48% to the front wheels and 52% to the rear. The engine sound is similar to most SUVs and pickup trucks, with a tone identical to the Barrage and the Squaddie.
While the "Bodywork" modifications are technically spoilers, they do not offer increased traction due to a flag that prevents this change. [2]

- Available for purchase from Warstock Cache & Carry for $1,100,000 or for $825,000 (trade price after completing the Gather Intel setup mission for The Cayo Perico Heist).
- Awarded to players who complete Tier 4 of The Cayo Perico Heist in Career Progress as of the San Andreas Mercenaries update.

- In Grand Theft Auto Online, the default radio stations are grouped by genre. The Winky uses the "Rock" group which can play:
- Los Santos Rock Radio
- Radio Mirror Park
- Kult FM (Enhanced Editions only)
- Vinewood Boulevard Radio (May not play due to a three station limit within the group)
Trivia[]
General[]
- "Winky" is a slang term for a penis, another example of Rockstar's adult humor.
- The name may be also a play on its real-life inspiration, as "willy" is also a slang term for a penis.
- In the Transform Race Creator, the Winky is listed under both the Off-Road and Military categories.
Oversights[]
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
- After completing The Cayo Perico Heist, the player would lose access to the trade price until they completed the Gather Intel setup mission again. This was later fixed in the Los Santos Tuners update.
