Wichita Gardens is a district in the lower parts of Shoreside Vale, Liberty City in Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto Advance and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories. The neighbourhood is mostly based on the real-life areas in The Bronx.
Description[]
Located on the northeastern end of Shoreside Vale's explorable area, Wichita Gardens is a low-lying area that directly borders Cedar Grove, which is perched on top of a massive cliffside facing the whole of Wichita Gardens.
The area is predominantly occupied by housing projects, but also includes an access to the Porter Tunnel, as well as the Staunton View Picnic Area, a seaside park offering vistas of northern Staunton Island and Portland. Claude's safehouse in GTA III is located also in one of the apartment blocks. Radio stations MSX FM and Game Radio are also stated in game materials to be based in the district in GTA III. Wichita Gardens is based on the apartments of Co-op City, Bronx.
Gang Control[]
During the events of GTA III, in 2001, the Southside Hoods is split into two sub-gangs; the Purple Nines and the Red Jacks. The Purple Nines help in spreading SPANK to the streets, but with the help of Claude, the Red Jacks manage to wipe out the Nines after a gang war.
In GTA Liberty City Stories, set in 1998, the district is run by the Forelli Family, however, with the help of Toni Cipriani, the Southside Hoods (then consisting of united Purple Nines and Red Jacks members) take over the district. Yakuza members may be spotted around Wichita Gardens, however there are no known reasons as to why, and it's assumed it's just a spawning glitch.
