Waning Sands is a town in Leonard County, Leonida, that is due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI.

It can briefly be seen on a road sign in the first trailer. It can also be seen later in the trailer on the large shopping mall signage, indicating the mall is within the town. The Leonard County Sheriff police cars in the same scene indicates it is located in Leonard County.

It appears to be inspired by various areas below the southern border of Broward County, Florida, such as North Miami Beach, and possibly Aventura. The name may come from the high rate of beach erosion that occurs in many coastal areas and beach cities of Broward County; literal waning sands. The Florida Department of Environmental Protection considers Broward County a critical area of erosion.[1]
