The following is a list of vehicles that can be controlled in Grand Theft Auto Online.
There are over 800 vehicles in Grand Theft Auto Online. The game greatly expands upon both the variety and functionality of vehicles present in Grand Theft Auto V, with a whole host of land, sea and air vehicles.
Overview[]
With the introduction of Content Updates, Grand Theft Auto Online sees the addition of over 500 new vehicles since its release. As the game's timeline has progressed and the content Rockstar Games include in their updates has evolved, vehicles in GTA Online have increased in detail and functionality. The majority of vehicles added to the game are exclusive to the enhanced versions of the game.
Like GTA V, vehicles purchased or spawned in traffic feature unique license plates. The License Plate Creator can be used to customize the license plate text of owned vehicles in GTA Online. This was formerly controlled through the now-defunct iFruit App. Vehicles can be stolen off the street and stored in garages. The player can only save vehicles in Garages they own. Vehicles stolen off the street cannot be stored if they have a purchase value of $100,000 or more as they are considered "Hot". The player can purchase a huge range of vehicles on in-game websites such as Legendary Motorsport, Southern San Andreas Super Autos and Warstock Cache & Carry. Players can also purchase vehicles from showrooms and other events, including Luxury Autos, Premium Deluxe Motorsport and Los Santos Car Meet. Depending on the vehicle, these vehicles are either stored in a personal Garage, are only available via Pegasus Lifestyle Management, or have a unique property prerequisite for storage.
Unlike GTA V, the player also has the ability to sell vehicles at mod shops such as Los Santos Customs. Like the ability to store stolen vehicles, stolen vehicles considered "Hot" cannot be sold. The majority of storable vehicles purchased on websites or from showrooms can be resold, albeit at a reduced resale value, typically at 10%. The resale price of a vehicle reflects the price of the vehicle at purchase, including whether it was on offer (such as during an Event) or even rewarded for free.
Unlike GTA V, vehicles in GTA Online will not begin to leak fuel if the fuel tank is shot or damaged, meaning it is not possible to run out of fuel. Comparatively, vehicles will not leak oil.[ref?ref? This fact is likely to be disputed and needs a source for confirmation.]

Special Releases[]
The game's first exclusive update, the Heists update, saw the addition of new weaponized vehicles, including the Insurgent Pick-Up, Technical, Savage and Valkyrie. The Insurgent Pick-Up is notable for being one of the most durable, high-capacity and weaponized vehicles in the game. A customizable variant was also later added in the Gunrunning update for the enhanced versions of the game.
"Super-moddable" vehicles began appearing in the game since the release of the Lowriders update, which saw the addition of highly customizable variants of existing lowriders, such as the Voodoo and Primo. This marks the start of a particularly high increase in the depth of customization options, with the addition of new vehicle customization categories.
Several vehicles feature unique driving animations which allow the player to ride or drive one-handed at low speeds. Initially introduced in the Lowriders update, this feature is present on certain lowriders like the Buccaneer and Chino, as well as certain motorcycles, such as the Manchez and Wolfsbane. The ability to melee-attack on motorcycles was also later introduced on motorcycles as part of the Bikers update.
A limited number of vehicles feature sound-proofed interiors. Initially introduced with the Executives and Other Criminals update, these vehicles have the majority of exterior audio muffled (with the exception of NPC's voices) when the player is in first-person view. Examples include the Cognoscenti and Cognoscenti 55.
The Import/Export update sees a huge focus on vehicle trading and performance vehicle-orientated missions with the addition of Vehicle Warehouses.
With the introduction of Hangars as part of the Smuggler's Run update, players are able to store and customize purchased aircraft. The update saw the addition of many new weaponized and highly customizable aircraft, including the FH-1 Hunter returning from the 3D Universe, as well as much larger aircraft like the RM-10 Bombushka.
The Arena War game modes introduced in the Arena War update allow players to purchase and customize and assortment of repurposed weaponized vehicles in a series of demolition-based competitive modes. Contender vehicles used in battles appear in three variants: Apocalypse, Future Shock and Nightmare, each with their own unique traits and customization options.
The Los Santos Car Meet added with the Los Santos Tuners update allows players to meet up and view each other's custom cars in a unique safe space. The meet also allows players to purchase and reproduce vehicles, both of NPC and player-owned custom cars, as well as use the in-house mod shop to customize their vehicles.
The Expanded and Enhanced versions of the game introduces Hao's Special Works, a tuning shop which offers unique high-performance upgrades to a limited range of vehicles. These performance upgrades greatly enhance the vehicle's acceleration and top speed in comparison to its stock variant, as well as offer unique HSW-themed liveries and parts. HSW also allows players to participate in special races and time trials.
The ability to purchase and customize law enforcement vehicles is added with The Chop Shop update. Certain law enforcement vehicles from the update were originally intended to be added with a Cops & Crooks themed DLC in 2020. The player can purchase police variants of existing vehicles from Warstock Cache & Carry and store and customize them in player-owned properties. Unlike most personal vehicles, law enforcement vehicles cannot be customized or sold at non-player owned mod shops such as Los Santos Customs or Beeker's Garage. These vehicles have a $0 resale value. The collection of police vehicles was greatly expanded upon with the Bottom Dollar Bounties and Agents of Sabotage updates.

Trivia[]
- In the original PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Grand Theft Auto V and GTA Online, vehicles brought to mod shops have a unique window tint that is fully opaque and totally blacked out, usually covering all windows of the car except for the front windshield. However, this feature was removed completely from all subsequent releases of the game, due to the introduction of the first-person mode seen on 8th and the upcoming 9th gen re-releases of these titles.
