Cargobob etc

I discussed it with Camillo because it followed on from his request to restore the data file and he was online making changes to the data in the Cargobob article (cargobob cargobob2, cargobob3 cargobob4) right at that moment, not because I thought he was the best resource.

As I've mentioned before, I haven't done any GTA modding or game file extraction since GTASA. I want to keep my IV and V systems vanilla :) I may just go ahead and install on a 2nd PC with no internet just to rip it to bits and look under the hood. Then again, I may not since I don't really want to go down that rabbit hole - too much like my real job. The Online spawn scripting isn't (wasn't always?) completely locked away, remember Sentinel XS driver? Not that I want to go down the modder path to look at online files.

What I wasn't sure of was whether the game (Online) spawns one of the other 3 known variants in the appropriate "owned" livery each with different armour values or whether it just changes the values (multipliers) for the base cargobob model "on the fly" by spawn script. An educated guess tells me the in-mission spawns are definitely scripted to have increased durability (since that is common with most vehicles in missions) but the three free-roam spawn varieties were doing my head in. How could the Pegasus vs Personal be so obviously different? That's not even touching on why should they be different at all?

Of course, this doesn't even touch on the different damage model in Online vs Story Mode.

Cheers for your interpretation of what you can see though. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 02:44, September 26, 2017 (UTC)

Re:Modular templates

Yeah, I've had a couple of ideas to try to get around the "manual close before opening another" issue, wrapping them in a close-all container div didn't work because mw-collapsible is toggled and I ended up hiding the container with no way to unhide it so clicking buy only expanded the section within another collapsed div so couldn't be seen :(.

One bonus of the current method is, if you don't close one, you can do a compare between two or more properties quite easily.

I've had some ideas around turning the left sidebar into an embedded navigation pane to load sub-pages in the details but even if I can get that to work (and I'm not sure wikitext will allow it), I don't think it would be as "editor-friendly" as just adding/updating 2 new templates to the one big page for any new property.

Vehicle web looking good - only concern is link colour on SSSA. Yellow on yellow. EDIT: redacted, I was looking at User:Monkeypolice188/Sandbox/Experiments#Ssasa, not the updated template with the darker background. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 22:17, September 29, 2017 (UTC)

Well, I've nailed it. I had to add .target class to Common.css, couldn't do it inline:
Allows you to do this:

<div style= "float:left;width:49%; height:200px; overflow:auto; border:solid yellow 2px;">
Click me for 1
Click me for 2
Click me for 3
<div class="target" style = "float:left; width:49%; height:200px; overflow:auto; border:solid white 2px;">
<div id="test1">
You clicked 1, so this is Option ONE
<div id="test2">
You clicked 2, so this is Option TWO
<div id="test3">
You clicked 3, so this is Option THREE

You clicked 1, so this is Option ONE

You clicked 2, so this is Option TWO

You clicked 3, so this is Option THREE

You target each unique div ID using #links. So in practice in my RealEstate layout, all my details templates are in a target block and I just link the Buy button to their ID#... hey presto!
The target div block seems to be very limited on what can be included in it though.
Images - could only get it to work with one parameter (one of |thumb, |center, |###px), couldn't nest further div elements... so I reverted to a table layout for the target "details" panel as I could control layout through table cell formatting. Now to stretch it out and put in all the properties and see how it works in practice. Of course, will need to see how it looks in mobile now that I'm putting tables in. But I'm doing away with collapsibles so might be better than it was on mobile. ;) Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 09:51, September 30, 2017 (UTC)
I will have a close look at your code, see if I can spot any conflicting formatting. You need to remember CSS order of priority:
  1. in-line (defined in the element itself)
  2. page (head)
  3. external
Also, without looking yet, dividing div blocks into equal % is normally a better idea, but you have to allow for any padding you include within the div. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 23:10, September 30, 2017 (UTC)
While you were sleeping... I imposed 33% width values to each column in the container table template.
Then I added fixed heights to all rows in the modular template.
Still had the same issues with the price field over-riding the 85px limit and expanding the cell height, even with max-height.
Until I figure out why it does that, I implemented 2 workarounds -
  • a) added all annotations as Hints (note you cannot use quote "text" in a H:title, I changed to 'text' to get them to display)
  • b) temporarily added a div block with overflow:auto to add a scroll bar rather than causing the whole cell to expand.
Definitely weird though. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 02:50, October 1, 2017 (UTC)

(Reset indent)The weirdest part is that vertical stretch in the price cell only happens in DesktopXL (when you go widescreen). It looks OK in desktop preview and if you resize your browser (smaller), it goes away. It is a PITA. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 05:40, October 1, 2017 (UTC)

OK, I've narrowed down the issue to large screen rendering - definitely "under the hood" stuff... looks like it is probably dictated by global Fandom css. It doesn't do it in Microsoft Edge, but does it in Opera and Chrome. We could possibly over-ride it using local inline css (or even !important declarations) IF we can identify exactly what is changing. It looks like font size/zoom but declaring in absolute pixels is an accessibility no-no. I'm not sure declaring a size in em will stop it happening, :( we may just have to live with it. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 09:15, October 1, 2017 (UTC)
Far out I am so rusty... took me far too long to stop trying to use wikitext and built-in gallery caption formatting to achieve the look of the opaque floating banner over the images in the real estate layout and just do it in CSS with relative/absolute divs :( Looks bloody good though, if I do say so myself. Just need to get all the images that I uploaded assigned to each template (and get some identical ratio shots for a few of the high-end ones (i'm following the actual ratios, not using 16:9), and I'll be able to put it into "production". Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 09:42, October 4, 2017 (UTC)
As I mentioned above, I think the .target class was worth adding so we can use this design element more often. Also as I said...
"The target div block seems to be very limited on what can be included in it though. Images - could only get it to work with one parameter (one of |thumb, |center, |###px), couldn't nest further div elements..."
— me, earlier
Not sure whether using #tag will work or even resorting to pipe when needed to get other elements into the target divs. Clearly worth playing around with some more. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 22:32, October 7, 2017 (UTC)

Answering your question regarding that skateboard image

Apparently the skateboard used to exist before the Heists Update - They changed it then because they needed room for the heist planning board. REAL shame - those guitars looked baadaaasss. I'm sick of seeing the ugly heist planning anyway. I have no need for it when I have a hangar and an office. Spiky Eared Pichu (talk) 15:46, October 3, 2017 (UTC)

Regarding maintenance of my Talk page

Hello, Monk. While I appreciate your attempts to maintain my Talk page, please do not remove messages from it, even if they are spam or from troublesome users (as you did here). I would much prefer if any and all messages sent to me remain on the record. If you wish to, you may strike through nuisance messages for me.

By the way, I thank you and other Bureaucrats for not removing my Staff privileges in my absence. I also left a message on the Community Noticeboard regarding my long hiatus, if you wish to read it.

The Titan and RM-10 Bombushka are indeed cargo planes, but there is also an actual plane of that name.

Jobs for your bot

Good day, Monk, could you please make your bot italicize the "GTA Online" in all instances of "GTA Online Protagonist"?

TAlim 1994 - Konan T-A Lim 林道安 (talk | contributions) 13:56, October 6, 2017 (UTC)

That's not a bad idea. I'll (He'll) get onto it soon. Monk Talk 18:51, October 6, 2017 (UTC)
I was about to start this, but without having a category or something to work from (ie, a group of pages the bot can work through), the only way this would be possible would be to make it go through every single article on the wiki, and that takes...well, too long. I think it would be easier to find common categories that pages with "GTA Online Protagonist" are listed in. Could you suggest some? If not, I'll leave this job for the weekend so I don't have to leave my PC on for hours through the night. Monk Talk 19:01, October 19, 2017 (UTC)

Fandom's F#$@ing "Featured Video" BS

Have you seen the "5 Fastest Vehicles in Grand Theft Auto 5" "featured" video on the Vehicles in GTA V page. Holy shitballs, talk about contrary to the actual content of the wiki! They make it look like official wiki content and there's not a damn thing we can do about it as far as I can tell. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 08:07, October 7, 2017 (UTC)

I contacted Fandom 2 days after its addition, telling them how subjective the video information was and making them aware the vehicle speeds listed on the vehicle article are not 'the fastest' speeds and are simply absolute raw data. If anything, this is probably a better measure, although as stated clearly on the table, it shouldn't be used as a comparison. Fandom responded, asking me what was wrong, and that they'd get onto the video creation team. If they really insist on large articles having videos, then I feel they should at least create something slightly less subjective like '10 most expensive vehiclesin GTA Online'. It's pathetic and what's worse is forced auto-play. Scared the shit out of me on the Heists Update page. They also blocked a css line that users could use to stop auto play. Monk Talk 08:22, October 7, 2017 (UTC)
I kind of hoped that they were only adding these ad videos to articles without existing video, so we could prevent it with "placeholder" videos... but from what I've read, they'll be imposing them on our highest traffic pages (hence the one on the Heists page I suppose). And yeah, disable autoplay in the player works for 2 weeks at a time (unless you have a browser extension which stops all autoplay (Disable HTML5Autoplay in Chrome FTW :) ). At least they are not 3rd party branded and the end advertises GTA Wiki... but still :( Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 08:35, October 7, 2017 (UTC)
I agree with the two of you: the video is far too subjective. Some of the Featured Videos are indeed useful (such as the ones that appear on the DLC pages), but that one has got to go, especially since that page covers all vehicles, not just cars, and several aircraft are significantly faster than any land vehicle.
TAlim 1994 - Konan T-A Lim 林道安 (talk | contributions) 15:23, October 7, 2017 (UTC)
It's a hobby for Wik... — ach, Fandom sorry — to cause disruption all over the network, that's nothing new. If I tell you guys about the whole shitstorm that they caused on the CoD wiki, you will bash your heads on your keyboards. Ultimate94ninja talk · contribs 17:03, October 7, 2017 (UTC)
I'm going to get them to remove the video, or at least replace it with something less controversial. I agree the DLC page videos are useful (well, not exactly useful in my opinion, but acceptable), but the vehicles one, nah, that's too far. Monk Talk 18:28, October 7, 2017 (UTC)

Infobox problem

Good day, Monk, there is a minor issue with the character Infobox that I was hoping that you might be able to rectify: the subheadings in the Infobox always appear, even if there is no information under them (see here for an example), and I would appreciate it if you can make a subheading disappear if there is no relevant information to display under it.

Can it be requested from the SecuroServ vehicles. Owen 13:53, October 8, 2017 (UTC)

Yes. Monk Talk 20:00, October 8, 2017 (UTC)

Why not? I though it was a functional feature that is present on many cars and tells how it behaves when comes to terrain. Assuming we have at least two types mentioned in the Handling.dat in GTA IV and behaves the way they are supposed to do to reflect their real-life iterations, they might as well in GTA V.

Also, that's the objective of the vehicle features page: to get as much functional features as we can. Remember? --BodyArmor-GTACW-Android SWAT Cam F VehicleWeapon-GTACW-Android Detonator-GTACW-Android Crate-GTACW-Android 17:45, October 8, 2017 (UTC)

Because those two types are completely useless. Those suspension flags are as useful as the handling flags - which are also, completely, useless. Whether they do anything in GTA IV, I have no idea, but I'm assuming not, because all the car's suspension handle the same way. Suspension properties are covered in the variety of suspension offsets, values, etc.
And no, that's not the purpose of the features page - the purpose is to list features that players are actually going to find interesting, or unique - suspension is an aspect covered in performance, and is hardly a "feature", considering every car's suspension behaves differently. Those names, McPherson strut, etc, are just popular types of suspension in real life, and in GTA IV, they use that name to represent the class of suspension it can work from - form there, suspension offsets and properties completely change that. Monk Talk 20:00, October 8, 2017 (UTC)
I see. So they are more of a performance asset rather than a feature. Well, I though it would be more like a feature because cars like the Airtug does not have any sort of suspension (just plain wheels magically connected to the car), but by assuming every suspension behaves the same way is a bit wrong, because of the angle they will have if they are not in contact with anything (wheels may vary of angle wether a dependent or independent suspension is available), but other than that, there may be little differences not verified. --BodyArmor-GTACW-Android SWAT Cam F VehicleWeapon-GTACW-Android Detonator-GTACW-Android Crate-GTACW-Android 20:32, October 8, 2017 (UTC)
Well, obviously, you have vehicles that have little to no evidence of suspension (Airtug, Caddy, Mower, most aircraft), some that have a ridiculous amount (Dubsta 6x6, Liberator, Marshall, etc), and anything in-between is mostly a massive, yet small range, variation. From that, I can't really see how this deserves a section on the article. Monk Talk 20:35, October 8, 2017 (UTC)

Vehicle question

Hello, Monk, may I ask what "swankness" is supposed to be? I see that statistic mentioned on several vehicle Infoboxes, something that I believe you yourself added to the vehicle Infobox template some time ago.

TAlim 1994 - Konan T-A Lim 林道安 (talk | contributions) 17:34, October 9, 2017 (UTC)

Swankness is a rating of how "cool" the vehicle is. The higher the value (out of 5), the better NPC's react to the vehicle - ie, sports cars have higher ratings. The lower the value, the more "average" the car is, and if it's 0, the vehicle usually causes NPC's to become scared or worried (police vehicles). Monk Talk 17:38, October 9, 2017 (UTC)
I see. Thank you for the explanation.

Submersible interior

Hey man, how's going?

Do you really know if there is any data regarding the Submersible and the Kraken interiors? Last time I've checked it, there was no interior listed there, yet they still use a "submarine" variation of flyer dials (replacing any air-related indicators with water-based indicators). --BodyArmor-GTACW-Android SWAT Cam F VehicleWeapon-GTACW-Android Detonator-GTACW-Android Crate-GTACW-Android 18:00, October 9, 2017 (UTC)

Hmm, good question. I don't recall checking those! From my knowledge, I presume it uses a combination of the regular boat interior (truck) and it's own textures. So Submersible + Truck. Will check. Monk Talk 18:21, October 9, 2017 (UTC)
Wow, this is really bizzare. The interiors of both Submersibles don't match those on the dashboard pics on the wiki. The interior textures are really low quality and don't match those dial textures seen in that dashboard picture either. What's more odd is the seat location on the regular Submersible appears to be center in the dashboard picture, but the model has two seats at either side, with nowhere to sit in the center. Trying to find patched models. Monk Talk 18:28, October 9, 2017 (UTC)
Okay, found, and found the textures, which are, thanks for pointing out, different to regular boat textures :p so the submersibles don't use the boat interior, just truck + submersible, with submersible dial sets. Monk Talk 18:32, October 9, 2017 (UTC)
I see. Now that you mentioned it, that's right, there is no middle seat in the Submersible. Assuming it was one of the first vehicles depicted in the pre-release phase, certainly they changed the code to be a one-seater, but forgot to change the interior :P --BodyArmor-GTACW-Android SWAT Cam F VehicleWeapon-GTACW-Android Detonator-GTACW-Android Crate-GTACW-Android 18:38, October 9, 2017 (UTC)

I though it would be reasonable because it would list the vehicles based on design (from the smallest to the largest) and to put similarly-designed vehicles (or variants) together, so we wouldn't miss any vehicle. Urgent jobs for your bot

Good day, Monk, I have an urgent job for your bot concerning the "Stub" template. I have modified the template code to allow the "article or section" text to be replaced with more specific text if desired, but unfortunately, due to existing code, I had to modify the existing code, which makes the template display incorrectly if the issues requiring improvement is specified as a first parameter. Could you please make the bot check all pages that have the "Stub" template, and add improve= to the start of the first parameter if it has one? Your bot should only need to do the check once, since any future users of the template should use the new code. By the way, while on this subject, have you made your bot do the previous job yet?

TAlim 1994 - Konan T-A Lim 林道安 (talk | contributions) 15:16, October 11, 2017 (UTC)

I am unsure what you want me to do? I'm assuming this seqeunce would refer to what you are describing?
  • Line 1 - If article has {{stub|, go to Line 2
  • Line 2 - Replace with {{Stub|improve=
  • If else, stop.
Correct? And as for the other job, no, I didn't get round to that. I will do soon. Monk Talk 20:18, October 11, 2017 (UTC)
Yes, that does describe what I am asking you to do. Please do it soon, as there are a number of stub articles that I wish to add the template to, but I do not wish to end up re-editing the articles if your bot inadvertently breaks the template with the required maintenance. Just make sure that the bot does not remove any existing text in the template parameters, for obvious reasons.

I saw a video of a player playing these weeks ago, likely mods? Not sure how they got access to it beforehand, likely some special access, either way, I saw the video and didn't really like it....BUT, when I saw today how much time they'd actually put into some of the prop arrangements (literally, one of the races has a MASSIVE dragon in the air, created with loads of props we've already seen, neat stuff, another models the Titanic, which is odd ahaha) and the vehicle references (a Hauler transformation in the Los Santos River - hmmm, I wonder why? ahaha), I actually really like them. Shit pay though. They also take a lot longer than regular Stunts. Monk Talk 19:08, October 17, 2017 (UTC)
I see. Considering how successful they will be, probably we will have more varieties in the future, as with Special Vehicle Circuit. • Some vehicle types are driven/piloted WAY longer than others (for example, a quick shift into a Havok and then straight back into something a little more boring *cough* seashark)
  • The Besra, Havok and Molotok are WAY too overused. I swear at least one appears in every race.
  • The payout is awful. Considering I'm getting 13-16k each race, they take upwards of 6 minutes (sometimes even 10), and this is DOUBLE money? They're literally going to be 5-6k, which is really out of balance when you consider that's similar pay to existing stunt races which take like 4 minutes. Monk Talk 19:52, October 17, 2017 (UTC)
That's just a shame. We have more boats than just a Seashark, probably a Dinghy or a Toro. The aircraft selection is fine, but should be better (like a Hydra for more elaborated courses, or any of the fastest stuntplanes like the Alpha-Z1 and the Howard). And one can even get more money with that time in something else (business-type missions or heist finale missions, if that is really better). I hope this will be better in the future, as they kinda screw up in the release. Just saying. --BodyArmor-GTACW-Android SWAT Cam F VehicleWeapon-GTACW-Android Detonator-GTACW-Android Crate-GTACW-Android 20:20, October 17, 2017 (UTC)

Regarding your spelling

Good day, Monk. Were you the Administrator who initially wrote the "General Rules" section of the Manual of Style? If so, I would like to remind you that "italicate" is not a word: the correct word is "italicise" (or "italicize"). If you were not the Administrator who wrote that section, I apologise for the confusion.

That was me, back when I thought it was a word. My apologies. Monk Talk 18:57, October 19, 2017 (UTC)
Not a problem. The page needed an overhaul anyway, as the lead had been written with horrible grammar, to the extent that I took several minutes to work out what the original author(s) meant, and subsequently to correct it. I also added additional guidelines concerning the general non-necessity of "correcting" US/UK English spelling differences, and also concerning the italicisation of titles of in-game films, television programs, newspapers, albums, etc..

Thank you for the merging, it is indeed better like that. Coming to think of it, I do not know why neither Sean nor I thought of using the #switch parser function to do what you did. I have refined the template documentation and made a few other changes to the template, and it now works beautifully. Once again, thank you for your help.

It did occur to me briefly but I just thought the complexity would make it too unfriendly for novice users to add new items to individual lists or new lists to the combined template so decided not to even try it :). Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 01:33, October 20, 2017 (UTC)
Fair enough, but then again, that is what we are here for as Staff: to help novice users. I also placed an invisible note within the source code instructing users who are uncertain of how to use the code properly to contact someone who does, such as ourselves.

As for the Bikers/Smuggler's ones, I dunno. I was thinking of just using the generic terms for them, like "Biker Business" and "Air Trafficking Business" (unless there is a hidden name somewhere, like "Covert Ops" for the main features of Gunrunning) Should not have a link for these until a "real" name is revealed.

Regarding button and border colours

Good day, Monk, did you change the button and border colours on the wiki to gold? If so, I must say that I preferred it when they were grey, and I recommend changing them back.

I disagree. I much prefer the new high-contrast look. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 02:42, October 25, 2017 (UTC)
After some consideration, I have changed my mind, and I now agree with Sean that the new button and border colours do in fact look and contrast better, since they match the colour of the inline link highlights. However, I still wish to know who changed the colour, so please inform me if it was you, or tell me who it was if it was someone else (assuming you know, of course). Thank you.
TAlim 1994 - Konan T-A Lim 林道安 (talk | contributions) 07:50, October 25, 2017 (UTC)
I changed the button color as some buttons, particularly on the rail, and the editing button, we're hardly visible, and gold was the only color that stud out, while also had some relevance to other colors on the wiki (gallery borders, links, etc). I wasn't aware it would change user mastheads, but I kinda liked it anyway. :p Monk Talk 08:29, October 25, 2017 (UTC)
I see. Good job on that. May I asked exactly what settings you changed? Also, I suggest that you also consider changing the colour of the drop-down lists at the top of the wiki so that they match the button and user masthead colours.

Transform split

Tried it. Needs prettying up but I can leave that to you, but seems to work the way you want it. One 8 column-span containing two left-floating/auto-overflowing DIVs each containing a nested table with the left/right options. It may look nicer if the right div is right-aligned (creating a narrow column gap in the middle)?  Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 08:41, October 27, 2017 (UTC)

Done a bit of tidying up myself and a few points to note:
  • Left/Right headings removed from the nest... so they can be center-aligned. If you center-align within the nest, they actually appear right-aligned due to the overflow.
  • Borders removed from the nested tables
  • Scrollbar: Can only be positioned at the bottom AFAIK (without javascript tricks anyway). So if your split list is long, you force the reader to vertical-scroll to the bottom to reach the horizontal-scroll control and then vertical-scroll back to the top. You may want to do a div nest for each transform and have individual scrollbars for every overflowing row?
To be honest, when I read what you were wanting to do, my initial reaction was "That will be ugly AF, you shouldn't do it like that". But, it actually looks better than I thought it would. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 09:29, October 27, 2017 (UTC)

I am afraid that I must disagree with you here, Monk. While you are correct that we do not currently have any substantiated information concerning Grand Theft Auto VI (other than the fact that it will be released at an indeterminate point in the future), the post that the above user has made was on a personal Blog page, and while it is true that its content is primarily speculative, the page is not in the mainspace, and the content is still relevant to the Grand Theft Auto series. Regarding Xbox LIVE and my activity

Good day, Monk. Firstly, in case you missed my Xbox LIVE messages, I would like to apologise for my lack of haste when you requested me to create an empty session in Grand Theft Auto Online the other day: I was rather preoccupied with other matters at the time, and entirely forgot to do as you requested. Also, the P.C. that I used to use for editing has decided to buy the farm (possibly due to a virus), so my activity may be intermittent and inconsistent until I sort out the issue with that P.C. or purchase a new one (whichever happens sooner). I am currently borrowing a friend's P.C., which I do not have constant access to, but I should still be able to maintain a high level of activity at least one day a week.

Regarding the Current Design Gallery images for the Pyro

Hello, Monk. I have recently purchased a Pyro, and I noticed that the Current Design Gallery for that vehicle is missing images. I am willing to capture images of my Pyro for the gallery, but unfortunately I have already applied visible modifications to my Pyro (missile racks and livery), as I did not notice that the gallery was missing images until after I modified my plane. Do you wish me to capture the images as is, or would you rather I remove the mods before doing so?

TAlim 1994 - Konan T-A Lim 林道安 (talk | contributions) 01:42, November 27, 2017 (UTC)

I was going to get galleries of all 19 Smuggler vehicles at once, but never found an opportunity to do so, especially since my PC started giving up on me (overheating again). If you want to, go ahead, but yes, I'd prefer for the modifications to be removed. If you're willing to do so, remember to follow the MOS, and check out existing aircraft design galleries, such as Hydra or P-996 Lazer, to get an idea of how to take the images. Remember to get them during daylight (between 10 am and 2 pm) and when it isn't raining or foggy :) Monk Talk 15:49, November 27, 2017 (UTC)
I was afraid that you would say that. Removing the missile racks in particular will be a rather costly matter, as refitting them afterwards will cost me $195,000, but it shall be done. My next major vehicle purchase will be the FH-1 Hunter, and I will be happy to capture the Current Design Gallery images for it before I upgrade it. Just to confirm, the missile racks and livery are the only two visible upgrades, correct?
UPDATE: I have reviewed the Current Design Galleries of the Hydra and P-996 LAZER, and there is an apparent inconsistency with whether the images were taken on the ground or in flight. Do you prefer if I take the images while my Pyro is on the runway at LSIA or while it is in flight?
TAlim 1994 - Konan T-A Lim 林道安 (talk | contributions) 12:44, November 28, 2017 (UTC)

Apologies, but due to your lack of response, I am going to assume that the missile racks and livery are the only two visible upgrades, and I am also going to assume that you wish me to take the images on the ground at LSIA. I also intend to replace applicable Hydra images with ground images for consistency. Please feel free to contact me if any of my changes are not to your liking.

Re: Safehouses and Online content

1stly, yeah, I applied the cleanup template to the Safehouses in GTA Online page, mainly due to that table. I hadn't had time to come back to it yet. I've been a bit IRL busy and haven't been playing much GTA this month and haven't been contributing much added content here, just been playing security guard for the last few weeks.

Safehouses articles

IMO, garages in Online ARE safehouses (with reduced functionality). It is possible (although not very practical) to play GTA Online with a 2 car garage as your only safehouse, particularly in the original console release pre-heists. I think that including all the garages on the main safehouse page would make it too big though, so a sub page for garages with a "main" template link would work.

I had in mind a bit of an overhaul of all the Online safehouse pages, with a view to explaining the benefits of the higher priced properties e.g. location images showing ease-of-access and proximity to often used features, interior floorplans etc.

Given the constant copy&paste content by Rockstar I agree, we've done pretty well getting consistency in content. The Biker stuff hasn't interested me at all so I haven't really played any of it (it does not allow lone wolf), I just bought the club and accessed it to start the cleanup of those pages (as discussed with Camilo in March). Same goes for CEO special cargo. I pretty much just play import/export and gunrunning steal missions (to complete the research) when I play online. I do have heaps of recorded video to go through in the editor to flesh out the Gunrunning steal missions. Then I may move onto the Smuggling steal or the Gunrunning sell jobs :) I've also started using the GTAIV video editor to improve some of the IV content (I still have work to do finishing documenting the IV editor too).

Pretty much anything that R* force multi-player (not allowing lone wolf) will be stuff I won't have content to contribute. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 21:24, November 27, 2017 (UTC)

I might be able to assist here: I have a number of Friends whom I am confident will happily assist me in my research, so if you need my assistance on any mission in Grand Theft Auto Online that cannot be done alone, feel free to ask me.

  • RAM: 16GB usable 15Gigs
  • Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1500 Ti & Intel(R) HD Graphics 630

Yep. Your PC will run it. I'd be slightly worried about your GPU; not entirely sure what a gtx 1500 Ti is, or if that is just a typo. Going by the HD Graphics 630, it may struggle so I'd recommend lowering render distances and population, but other than that, your RAM and CPU is perfect for the job. Hey sir. Could you please tell me what's wrong with my edits on the Tailgater and Zion? I mean I'm a car-guy so... You know, my OCD couldn't stand stuff such as "quarter panels based on Lancer EVO X" while it's clear it was from the RS6, or no one mentioning a R32 Skyline interior on a E63 6 series. Thank you very much - Matheusiq

It was more to do with your engine edits - your edits to the engine description were mere speculation. We can't assume that engine sounds come from specific real-life vehicles without proper in-game sources, which means we cannot claim what an engine is, unless is claimed in-game via websites or vehicle badges, or through the model (which are often inaccurate, but are provided facts). Also, regarding the interior inspiration, the interior of the Zion is shared with other vehicles, so this would be more suitable on the Vehicle Features/Interior Dashboards article, in the trivia section of that article. Finally, the quarter panel information seems fine, so I apologise for removing that, as I didn't notice that was an addition made by you - if you feel that is more accurate, please go ahead and fix that. Cheers for contacting me! Monk Talk 22:14, December 11, 2017 (UTC)

Well, regarding the engine, I can differentiate a V8 from a V6 and a V10 quite easily. It's very sad that rockstar doesn't publishes official specs for certain cars but we car guys can have fun figuring that out (I figured out it was the 190 HP 2.8 V6 A6 with RS6 body panels). I understand that it's not 100% accurate BUT it's as accurate as we can get, I guess. So what could we possibly do in regards to the Tailgater? Zion can be talked about later, no problem

Matheuiq (talk) 01:59, December 15, 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, I created a temporary redirect page for Thruster but we can revisit page split/merge when it is released and can be evaluated properly. The Jetpack edits were more a pre-emptive placeholder. My gut feel is the articles can be kept separate. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 22:03, December 11, 2017 (UTC)

Wise choice. We'll see how it works out. If the model looks identical (/ more or less) to the SA version (which I doubt), the pages don't need to be split (for example, how the FIB Buffalo became the "FIB" but retained its design, same case with the Virgo Classic, etc). Monk Talk 22:14, December 11, 2017 (UTC)
Split done, it is closer to the Kart/Go Kart situation but let's not go there. :D Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 02:22, December 14, 2017 (UTC)

Probably a bit OTT, but your history with him probably warrants it. As I said, with 600+ vehicle article edits over a year and a half, a one liner and/or an infobox is pretty shoddy way to start a page. I usually say that the whole point of wiki is everyone contributes the little bits they know to make one big bit, but he clearly should jave been able to contribute better. I certainly stand by my "piss-poor" comment I left him. It surprised me that it didn't stay in Avenger2 shape when it was on the floor in the Facility. It reverted to "normal" landed shape. As you say, the Avenger2 model seems to be fully rendered and coded to allow it to be entered. I guess if you try to leave the Facility while in the Avenger2, there is no code to spawn you in the normal Avenger outside.  It despawns the player from the cockpit in the entry animation too.  Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 22:46, December 14, 2017 (UTC)

Thorny Dilemma

Criminal Enterprise Starter Pack! I deliberately didn't assign any categories... need to give it some thought. I added price to the DLC Infobox but haven't added "free" to any old DLCs (other than the example in the template page). I feel like we should be classifying this sort of DLC "asset purchase bundle" differently to the "added content" DLCs we are used to, just not sure the best way to handle that yet. The Starter Pack came as a bit of a bolt from the blue, although there were rumours surfacing in the last week or so on GTAForums that suggested there was something like this available. Festive Surprise 2017

All good, as soon as I realised you were actively working on it too, I backed off (only got 1 edit conflict message and aborted mine and left yours). My aim was to get all the raw info in from the Newswire and then massage it into respectibility - based on the layout of the 2016 one which I though was pretty good - but you were faster :)  I did have to count to ten when I read your edit summary haha.

As for the design gallery, yeah, I doubt it will stop anyone messing them up... I'm thinking about replacing the placeholder default image with something to point to the requirements, that may make it more obvious to potential contributors. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 22:52, December 19, 2017 (UTC)

Third time lucky I really wanted to integrate the existing imagery but it was just too busy and too small in the gallery thumbnails to be effective. This works, along with the reduction in default gap width. Not convinced we need a variable for completely blank galleries (it would just duplicate the "images needed" template at the top of the page) but I'll think about it. You're very lucky, the Vagner clip was the very last available recording in my Rockstar Editor clips :P all done.
PS Did you get a chance to look at my message I sent to you the other day? No rush, I saw you're busy lately. Monk Talk 20:00, December 20, 2017 (UTC)
With a different license plate? :p
Saw it just now, my bad. Online mission objectives are in their mission .json file on Rockstar's cloud servers. Sometimes, but very rarely, they're in a global.gxt2 in the update.rpf - it's usually the freemode mission (cargo, cars, events, etc) objectives that can be found there.
As for the audio transcripts and that example you gave me, I know exactly what it is (and those "random" numbers), but I haven't yet finished compiling my information - will have it out soon though, it's actually some pretty neat information about the game. Anyway, it's not the mission objective or server related stuff.
Images, like the mission data, are on Rockstar's cloud servers. They can be pulled from RGSC if you have the mission link, same with the actual mission data. V-michael-trunk-miniV-franklin-trunk-miniV-trevor-trunk-mini 12-20-2017, 04:53:52 (EDT)
Yeah, I eventually had to rerecord because the remaining clips I had of the Vagner was just the first person view.
@MissionData that's sick. Could you show me an example of a mission link or something? I'd be interested in working with that. Monk Talk 21:01, December 20, 2017 (UTC)
Sure, here's the RGSC job link for The Fleeca Job for example:
And here's the link for mission data of The Fleeca Job for example: V-michael-trunk-miniV-franklin-trunk-miniV-trevor-trunk-mini 12-20-2017, 05:26:27 (EDT)
Jeez, I see now. So how do you find these random numbers in the URL? Monk Talk 21:32, December 20, 2017 (UTC)
Capture internet traffic as the game downloads the job. V-michael-trunk-miniV-franklin-trunk-miniV-trevor-trunk-mini 12-20-2017, 05:34:52 (EDT)
That's insane. 100 million plays? that's just over 0.01% of the entire planet. Does "Add to Game" do anything? Monk Talk 21:42, December 20, 2017 (UTC)

It just loads forever, lol. I wish there was an easier alternative to finding these missions. I find the stats interesting. Noticed the like to dislike ratio is obviously incorrect (you can't rate heists anyway), but, yeah, this is really cool. Monk Talk 21:49, December 20, 2017 (UTC)
Actually, you can. Technically. Quitting a job while it's ongoing will automatically dislike it. Prison Break has it far worse :p V-michael-trunk-miniV-franklin-trunk-miniV-trevor-trunk-mini 12-20-2017, 05:53:33 (EDT)

“Where are these speeds coming from?”

I put speed and engine data based on the car’s speedo in firstperson. I use a stopwatch for 0-60 (based on the needle) and I use a 5 mile stunt prop for top speed testing.

If the ingame speedos are invalid for performance data recording, please do let me know. I do not have access to mods/trainer menus that show a separate speed meter.

Regarding Akula edit

Ah, I see. Guess I'll just leave it alone then. I don't want to repeat the 'Pokéball taillights' incident a few years back.

Akula edit

It is based on the model kit. I have this kit at home for like 10 years, I know what I am talking about.

Look at the comparison I made. They only changed the tale and left single blades instead of twin. Made the cabin a little bigger.

With everything else it is basically a copy.

Davin2012 (talk) 18:44, December 28, 2017 (UTC)Davin2012

"Akula" to Ka-68 comparison.

The only things that are remotely similar are the cockpit and nose. The rest of the helicopter is entirely different, the helicopter features a double rotor system, and the tail is completely different. How can you say the Akula is based on a model kit which copies the basic design of a REAL helicopter (which the Akula is based on) and changes everything except the cockpit? It's like saying the Issi is based on the MINI ALL4 Racing Dakar because it has a similar grille and because the MINIALL4 Dakar is based on the Mini Cooper, which the Issi is already based on.
Total nonsense. The fact you own the model for "10 years" doesn't change anything. If anything, it merely says that you only insist that the page include the model you own because you own one and feel it deserves a mention because you've lived with it for 10 years. Get over it. Monk Talk 18:48, December 28, 2017 (UTC)

It's not just cockpit and nose, it is the most of the shape. The nose, the cockpit, the turret, the wings with rockets, lower pods for rockets. It is just obvious that the design was based on this model kit. Because if you compare it to everything, this model will be simply the most similarly looking. Yes, they probably took the tail, the blades and the air intakes from Comanche, but the main part that defines the general shape is based on this model kit. Simply because you can't find anything more similar. The design of this model kit is fictional, but still has many unique elements, and you can clearly see that there are no other helicopters with this form of a nose, cockpit, spherical free rotating turret (although they changed the gun, it still remains similar - for example, Comanche and Apache have totallly different ones).
The designers of the model kit put some efforts in making a model of a helicopter that looks fairly unique, although it obviously takes some elements from Commanche and Ka-50\Ka-52. But if you are using these unique elements (which is the case here) you have to mention it, because you are not the designer of them. None of the helicopters has this form of a nose and cockpit, pylons for rockets (default RAH-66 is without them and Apache has them much bigger), a turret that is both spherical and has free rotation.
I do agree that significant part of the "Akula" is taken from other helicopters, but like half of the design is clearly based on this old fictional model kit that almost nobody even knows. An that is why it must be mentioned. Have some respect to the people who were the real designers of the cockpit, nose and some other elements. The developers mixed it with other elements, but you can still see that they used these forms from this model that no other helicopter has. I am sure that without this very concept of a stealth strike helicopter (that is a fictional feature of this exact model, but not of the any existing helicopters) the game wouldn't even have a black stealth helicopter. If it wasn't because of this model that some of the developers apparently saw.
I put here that I own this model for so long to show that these main elements that developers of the games moved to their helicopter, were designed not just before the game, but really long ago. People need to respect the features that other designed and not just take them as granted because they are old and nobody knows about it. It would be simply resfectful to mention this model, because the main elements of the helicopter (that define it general look) are taken from this model and only then from some other helicopters. Sure, it is also based on RAH-66, and the model kit is to some extent based on RAH-66, but it is distinct and unique enough to mention it as a source of design of the helicopter in the game.
Say, AK-47 borrowed some elements and decisions from the German STG-44, but it is different and unique enough that in game you don't say that you are shooting from the copy of STG-44, you are saying that you are using AK-47 or a an assault rifle, inspired by AK-47, not by STG-44. Because it has enough unique elements in it. The same goes here.

Blista talk page topic

Hey, can you check my topic in the Blista talk page? Thanks. Ronalddmjunior (talk) 20:06, December 28, 2017 (UTC)

Page renaming

Hello, Monkeypolice188!

I wanted to inquire how one renames a page on the Wiki. I ask, for instance, for pages such as Liberty Tree, which should be italicized (being a newspaper name), so I only want to italicize, not change its name; however, I don't see a "Rename" tab on the Edit dropdown. Is this an admin-restricted function? For what it's worth, I was a Janitor on my previous Wikia Fandom account for Left 4 Dead wiki. My passion is grammar and proofreading, and I just want to be able to correct as much as I can. Thanks for your help and letting me know if/how I can make this correction.

Woolfy123 (talk) 20:17, December 28, 2017 (UTC)

Hey there!
Renaming articles is currently an Administrator function only, however there is an article where any user can request articles to be renamed, located here.
Regarding your request, articles cannot be named with italics in them. They also cannot feature several symbols, such as # or [/]. If you wish to italiate the title, I recommend editing the display title. This can be done by editing the source of the page and adding at the top of the page. You can add italics to the title using this feature, for example, as , which would display the title as Liberty Tree. You can then apply italics to any other bold usage of the title, such as in infoboxes or in the lead description.
Hope this helps! Monk Talk 20:30, December 28, 2017 (UTC)
This absolutely helps, Monk! I figured there must be a workaround, seeing as articles for the game titles themselves are italicized, so I'm glad there's a way to change the display without renaming the article itself. I appreciate your help, cordiality, and quick response. I hope you have a great New Year!
Thanks :)

I have a complaint about Kiwismurf. He has no knowledge about special vehicles, yet he keeps reverting my changes on special vehicle pages because it's "spam and GTA Series Videos' special vehicle videos are perfectly fine" even though they're heavily outdated and in some cases wrong.

Fooking Rekt (talk) 13:04, January 2, 2018 (UTC)

Alright, I understand your frustration, however, you can't just make a complaint to another Staff member. I assume you have tried to talk this through with him. I also understand the point you're making, and you would be right to say that some of GTA Series Video's content is indeed outdated or often wrong. This is likely because they feed some of their information from the wiki itself, kind of like an endless circle of false information. Kiwi is just as innocent as anybody else here - he's only reverting your content because of its nature and how (un)presentable it is, and the way you write on the wiki doesn't meet the manual of style, which puts professionalism and readability in danger.
The reason we choose GTA Series Videos is pretty much down to aesthetics, but also about standardization; their videos are consistent and always maintain a well thought out structure, proper recording efforts and usually accurate information.
The whole "Specials Vehicles in [Game]" is pretty much an outdated area of the GTA Wiki and also pretty redundant. I did my bit to revamp the GTA V one, but I don't know anything about the other games, I haven't invested enough time into learning about them. And since the standardization is almost completely lacking, I once, and still do, consider deleting the articles altogether. I feel their information doesn't warrant a separate article, but is probably more relevant to each Vehicle article itself - ie, on the Kuruma article itself, under Variants, "[...] Kuruma"; A special variant of the Kuruma is seen during..." etc. That way, more information about it can be written, rather than a short description on a universal article which lists every single vehicle.
I also don't like the codes we use on that article - the "BP" "FP", etc; It's not really that nice to look at, especially when there's so many different variables. It becomes a task trying to remember them as you scroll through the never-ending lists.
An alternative solution would be to merge the Special Vehicles in [GTA game] articles with the Vehicles in [GTA game], and cut down on the unnecessary coding techniques and what more.
Leave it with us. In the meantime, if you believe your videos are worthy of a place on articles, so long as they meet the Media Policy, please use them, however refrain from link spams, such as "go here [youtube link]" "see here [youtube channel]", and instead just add the video as a file like any other page. If not, use references instead of URL spam. Monk Talk 15:51, January 2, 2018 (UTC)
Is it okay to put it like this? "Watch this video as a reference."? Because if I were to put everything as a reference, the reference list would be huge. Fooking Rekt (talk) 08:14, January 3, 2018 (UTC)
That's still demanding someone to watch something. We like to avoid patronizing or otherwise redirecting our users. The offer is out there for them to do something, but everything must be exactly that - optional. Hence why references are more appropriate. Monk Talk 22:06, January 6, 2018 (UTC)

I stopped by this wiki today and noticed that in addition to the main page looking different, the GTA Myths Wiki was missing from the affiliates tab. Perhaps you forgot to include it when you created the affiliates sub-page. Could you get that fixed ASAP? Thanks. Boomer8 (Contact) 08:50, January 3, 2018 (UTC)

RE: GTA V Weapons

Firstly, these images are awesome! At first I was a bit hesitant about whether we replace the infobox images with these or we put them as additional images in the galleries (since the older ones have transparent background and show an exact view of the other side of the weapon). But after thinking about it, they should definitely replace the old ones (since some of the latter are indeed of low quality, in grayscale or show old models e.g. the Bullpup Shotgun which didn't initially have iron sights). However, it's better to upload them as new versions of the old images rather than new files, so that we avoid deleting the old images and instead keep each one as part of the file history. That means we're gonna have to upload the new ones again; do you want me to take care of it? Ultimate94ninja talk · contribs 19:00, January 8, 2018 (UTC)

Having a bit of a debate with admin Smurfy

Alright here's the thing. At the very end of the setup mission, Escort ULP, Phoenicia Rackman tells someone named "Bernard" to stay safe, which in my opninion is she responding to Lester's farewell, and that the name is all jive. But Smurfy thinks otherwise, that Bernard is acutally Agent ULP's real name. As keeping this debate going would no doubt do no good to me, I'm here to ask for your opinion. The page is here. I didn't reply because he doesn't seem to make sense at this point...

And please don't be biased :) , really in need of someone else's suggestion. Noirlime4L (talk) 00:11, January 17, 2018 (UTC)

I'm not really sure, but going from the screenshot on the talk page, I'd say it's referring to Lester to be very honest. Monk Talk 16:18, January 18, 2018 (UTC)
It's currently listed on ULP's page as his real name. Should we do something about it? Smurfy doesn't permit me to remove it as he has his pov, which is why all this debate started. Noirlime4L (talk) 16:04, January 19, 2018 (UTC)

Hao's races

Hey there. I noticed you added a bunch of file data last year, particularly around "beta/cut" content. You removed Wildbrick's Terminal beta content and added 4 that appear to me to refer to the 4 Sea Races:

  • Los Santos Port = case 8:"LOSSANTOS";
  • El Gordo = case 5:"NORTHCOAST";
  • Power Station = case 6:"SOUTHCOAST";
  • Lago Zancudo = case 7:"CANYON".

See Wild's GTAForums post here

hao1.gxt2 - Hao 1 (Shift Work)
HAO1_3 = Get a suitable car to race.
HAO1_4 = This vehicle is not suitable.
SEA_BACK = ~s~Get back on the ~b~Seashark.
//>Get a suitable car to race/This vehicle is not suitable
//>Get Back on the Seashark
//Okay then.

That kind of confirms the Seashark races were once part of the Hao sequence for Franklin rather than their own scripts/shared with the off-road races for all 3 protagonists. :) Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 11:07, January 18, 2018 (UTC)

That makes more sense actually, yeah. I didn't really do much internal research into it, it was while I was breaking down the initial race scripts to get data from the vehicles and I just saw this code lying there that didn't match with the page. Makes more sense for them to be the searaces. Monk Talk 16:18, January 18, 2018 (UTC)
OK, I'll fix it up later. As for your other 2 things...
  1. Categories - I am in favour of as many categories to classify and group pages as we want. I think we have far too many "summary/list" type pages that should really be categories (anecdotal - no specific examples I can give right now). So short answer = yes, definitely worthwhile.
  2. Web replica template design and background images - I'll have a look this weekend. I think I have tried it before and found mediawiki table markup doesn't really allow it but I think it is possible with floating divs and relative positioning.
Not 100% happy with the default horizontal scroll in your web replica templates when rendered in a standard browser window at 1920x1080 resolutions. Mainly a wikia thing with that narrow vertical column that we have to try to squeeze all our desired horizontal aligned content into. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 04:09, January 19, 2018 (UTC)
Web Template: erm, what? I'm on a 1920x1080 and it works fine. I do admit that it sometimes launches with the horizontal scroll in some portrait modes however most displays I've loaded it on have been absolutely fine. That's why I went with it.
Categories: Good stuff. I can think of a few to be very honest. I'm going to start with all the Special Vehicle articles. I'm really stuck with where to go with them, but in my honest opinion, they're filled with a lot of unsupportive and incorrect information. Not only that, but the majority of them are a true mess. I cleaned up the GTA V one however I still don't believe it, or any of the others, belongs as a separate article. Monk Talk 15:58, January 19, 2018 (UTC)
I thought the scrollbar may have just been a screen scaling issue... and it was for Chrome and Opera... but MSEdge has the issue at 100% scaling.
I have 2 displays, both at 1920x1080, left side is on my 43", right side is on my 24".
Templaterender CHROME screensize difference
Scrollbar in Chrome on right hand screen went away when it was changed back from 125% to 100% (same behaviour tested on Opera).
Templaterender MSEDGE screensize difference
Scrollbar visible at all scaling settings in Edge
Weird eh? But since it's only MS Edge or scaled screens, I'd say we can ignore it :)

Idk, just as a "place holder", until we have a better idea.

My post was deleted due to there being "no edit summary." There should have been one as I did write a description for this image when I did post it. Anyways, I'm new to Wiki and have never posted before so I don't quite know what I am doing. Ha. ha.

My intentions were to provide higher quality images for certain things on the wikipedia page. More importantly GTA characters profiles. Is that something I could contribute to? I've been using the GTA Wiki for years and would like to help out by upgrading the quality of these images.

Like I said, I'd love to help out in boosting the quality of the site. Let me know your thoughts.

Event weeks, Categories, DLC etc

Yeah, I'm not sure why that category was ever removed since it started to became obvious that Online content would not be made available in Story Mode. And there are still a couple of Story Mode vehicles not seen Online. I'm still hoping for a Director Mode update to allow the Online content (and new characters) to be used somehow.

Good stuff with the event week "continuation" naming. I plan to populate Grand Theft Auto V/Title Update Notes with that naming convention instead of the "New Content Release" weeks.

One thing that does bug me is the order of the vehicles in the tables on the DLC pages. I guess you and Wildbrick imposed the alpha sorting requirement? To my mind, they should be in release order, so the bunch that get released on DLC day come 1st (and are alpha-sorted within their section of the table) then each subsequent release week should be listed in sequential order so the last vehicle on the page is the last one released in that DLC... but that may just be me. Jobs in GTA Online page update

I've taken a hatchet to your update to the page... Contact Missions are only 1 small subset of the Jobs list - and a page already exists for them - it was the very first page I overhauled on GTA Wiki. Certainly the Jobs page needed an update to add all the other new job types, but it did not need to try to be a single page covering all the detail - it should remain primarily an index page pointing to main pages for each individual subset of jobs. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 20:13, February 6, 2018 (UTC)

Sorry then. Monk Talk 22:03, February 6, 2018 (UTC)
I'll explain what I was getting at.
Ever noticed that Martin can occasionally invite you to Stunt Races? I have. It seems that almost all of the missions listed in the Jobs tab (including all the deathmatches, captures, races, etc, are hosted by a contact. I believe that Martin dominates in hosting almost all of them.
  • Lester hosts heists, which are lobby missions just like all the others, but they can't be accessed through the job section of the Pause menu.
  • Agent 14 hosts Mobile Operations, which are lobby missions just like all the others, but they can't be accessed through the job section of the Pause menu.
  • Unnamed SecuroServ contact hosts Special Vehicle Work, which are lobby missions just like all the others, but they can't be accessed through the job section of the Pause menu.
That's why I assumed that everything on the Jobs in GTA Online article was a Contact Mission. They're all structured within a Invite and Join lobby, all require joining a lobby, most can be accessed through the job section of the Pause menu, and all of them can be accessed through the Quick Job option in the phone.
On the other hand, I don't like the current purpose of the Missions in GTA Online page. I actually kinda feel that things should be the other way around at the minute. We don't actually have a collective article that lists absolutely every job available. Since we're assuming that the Jobs in GTA Online article lists everything listed in the pause menu Job section, then what about Organization Work, Motorcycle Club Work, Freemode Events, Freemode Challenges, Vehicle Cargo, Air Freight Cargo, Supplies missions, Heist Prep work, etc.... At the minute, there isn't an actual article to include these alongside every other form of job.
At the minute, GTA Online is essentially split between lobby and freemode missions. The traditional "Invite and Join" lobby missions are seemingly collected on the Jobs in GTA Online page, but as for the other things I listed...nothing.
On the third hand (stay with me here), GTA V's Missions in GTA V page doesn't list side missions, random events, etc...these are missions again, but of a similar form - there isn't exactly a loading/cutscene or individual mission script...this is all in-gameplay, rather than a separate mission. So maybe it isn't necessary to have somewhere to list Lobby Missions in GTA Online and Freemode Missions in GTA Online. I'm thinking of upgrading the Freemode article, splitting it between IV and Online since things changed massively since the release of Online, making it very, very different from GTA IV. But then, the Freemode article iteslf refers to exactly that - Freemode, so would I make another article for "Freemode Missions in GTA Online"? I'm really not sure where to take it. I think I might stick all the Freemode missions on the Freemode in GTA Online page (which will exist after the aforementioned split).
In summary, the Missions in GTA Online page is rightly placed, as it refers to only the Missions listed in the Jobs > Missions section of the Pause Menu, but I'm also a little bit worried about where Special Vehicle Work, Mobile Operations, etc, belong. Jobs, do you think? Are we limiting Missions in GTA Online to the Jobs > Missions section, or are we considering that Heists, Doomsday Heist, Mobile Ops and Special Vehicle Work are also technically "Contact Missions"?
All in all, where are the limits between these two pages. - Monk Talk 22:25, February 6, 2018 (UTC)
Just busy at work so haven't digested all of the above yet, but a few stream of consciousness points to get us thinking...
  • One page detailing all jobs is too big. It works much better with the Jobs page giving a brief overview of the job type and linking to subpages for all the actual job lists.
  • My gut feel is we should be organising the Jobs to mirror the Pause Menu > Jobs structure. Even down to ordering on the page?
    • Heists are a whole other kettle of fish, and are covered on the Jobs page by linking to the Heists page even though they don't appear on the Jobs menu.
  • When is a Contact Mission not a Contact Mission? I tried to add Martin as a "for" to an infobox, I think it was for an adversary mode job, not long after I returned to the wiki and it was unceremoniously reverted (I think by wildbrick - I'm struggling to find it now) and since then have toed the "party line" and not considered adding again, even though you clearly get the invites from him for those events and the stunt races. However, I do not consider those to be contact missions as they are not being performed as muscle for hire, the way the Missions in GTA Online jobs are.
  • While I get your meaning about Freemode vs Lobby jobs, there are too many blurred lines there to be able to draw a demarcation point - the Contact missions only accessible by corona (Coveted, Pot Shot etc) and the contact missions accessible both ways (mostly vs contact missions). All the other Jobs (Races, Parachute Jumps, Survivals that are accessible from freemode coronas - are they Freemode jobs or Lobby jobs? - They are both.
  • Organisation/Biker/Bunker/Hangar Jobs - should be listed on the Jobs page with a link to their main pages. They are not Contact Missions though, as although the initial business purchase was facilitated by a contact, the players are then performing those jobs for themselves, their own business. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 23:30, February 6, 2018 (UTC)
Honestly I don't think the line you're talking about is as blurred as you think. If you cut it down to basics, there's only two type of jobs in GTA; "separate lobby" jobs, and free mode jobs.
  • "Separate lobby" jobs require an invite, or at least someone to host them. They then require a loading screen, and then once you're in, there's only you and the people who joined. Then after, you have to vote, etc, before being returned to your session. I don't know what to call this type of job, but given all of the Jobs listed under 'Jobs' in the pause menu fit this criteria, plus all of those that are listed in Quick job (which includes heists, mobile ops, svw, etc; those that don't appear under Jobs in Pause Menu) , I assumed that 1) mobile ops, svw and heists can be safely considered 'jobs' and could understandably be listed in the jobs section of the Pause menu if they weren't restricted by R*'s idea of 'own an moc/office/heists planning board to do this' because let's face it, if those limitations weren't in place, those jobs belong on the Jobs list in pause menu, and.... 2), thus, the Jobs in GTA Online article reflects exactly that - all 'separate lobby jobs', as I call them, should be listed there, and not the free mode jobs like vehicle cargo and organisation work.
  • Freemode jobs have only really existed since Freemode Events update, although Lester Kill Target, Distract Cops, and money trucks can be considered too. Freemode jobs don't need any form of invites, no loading screens, no lobby creating, no voting. Vehicle Cargo steal and sell, Hangar steal and sell, biker steal and sell, etc, all Freemode events, organization challenges. None of these are lobby based - it all takes place in the session, other players get about their business or ruin yours.
So that's how I determined it. I understand what you mean about parachuting and survivals, etc, being both, almost like side missions when compared to contact missions, but even then, who says contact missions arent just side missions? What's not to say they aren't just petty acts of crime. There's no fixed order to the missions and no mission is influenced by the other, and the fact contact missions are listed alongside everything else in the jobs menu just indicates that they're similar in form, just a little more justified, with a meaning, a backing story to each individual mission.
Another important thing which kinda supports what I'm saying; the scripts for all contact missions, deathmatches, heists, etc, "separate lobby missions", aren't in the game file scripts on disc: they're downloaded directly from RSC. Each job you view on RSC stores the script for the mission, which the game uses to start the mission. This only applies to these lobby missions. Which means that svw, heists, mobile ops all have individual RSC pages like any other deathmatch, race, etc, but you can't reach them without the download link that the game uses. All the freemode missions, vehicle cargo, organization work, etc, is stored in the game file scripts on disc, not downloaded from rsc. So on a technical aspect, my thought is supported by the structure of the game itself. Monk Talk 00:08, February 7, 2018 (UTC)
I think I get what you mean, but what you are talking about is differentiated more by map/session instances than job access methods - The seamless freemode jobs that take place in public lobbies vs the jobs that initiate a session of the map that is dedicated to that job that only the player(s) participating in that particular job can see - which is basically every job introduced before the freemode events update.
Also don't forget that a PS3/XB360 freemode universe still exists where there was no freemode events update. The Free Mode page is very limited in online content (there is probably more info on the main GTA Online page) and I agree with the proposal to split it to GTA IV and GTAO pages - the GTAO page should have brief details of and links to all the freemode events that can take place in either versions: e.g. Lester Kill Target, Online Armored Trucks, Destroy Vehicle Target, Distract Cops, Aircraft Takedown, NPC Bounties, Joyrider, plus the freemode events, VIP work etc.
The Jobs page could include links to everything that can be done, so include all the freemode events, all race types, sports (Darts, Golf, Tennis - possibly including Parachuting), Heists etc but possibly(?) divided into session sections to differentiate seamless from dedicated instances. Good stuff! I've started back on my "title update notes" work too, and will start integrating your event weeks links soon. Re:Pigalle, no problem. The GTAForums appreciation thread has some good rear view imagery of the Maserati sources to leave little doubt. I don't actually see much SM past the front axle but re-ordered the desciption to put it 1st to save arguments with the "only look at the face" brigade :) Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 21:45, February 12, 2018 (UTC)

Yeah, the 190z is the opposite of the Pigalle too, front is all beautiful Datsun/Nissan Fairlady Z, back is ugly Toyota 2000GT, description covers both and manufacturer is Karin (Toyota). Still be buying one in about 11 hours :)... The Savestra is still bugging me, sure it is mostly Mazda RX3 but that front shape isn't close enough to the Skyline GTR (although the headlight surrounds and grille are close enough to still warrant a mention). That square shape is ugly though and I'm sure I've seen something like it, just cannot pinpoint it. I really wish it had a proper RX3 front end like this. Mad Mike could teach R* a few things about vehicular mash-ups. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 22:43, February 12, 2018 (UTC)
The thing is, many Japanese cars in the 60's and early 70's were copying Euro and American car designs (not quite as blatantly as the Chinese are doing now, but pretty close sometimes). Growing up in the 70's and 80's, it was fun doing the "spot the copied model" in real life, long before it became a video game obsession. There was a ton of Volvo in the original Skyline designs, hence Warrener is a Vulcar, not Annis.
So there is always going to be the of their original influences in the mash-ups R* give us. In some cases (possibly unintentionally), I think the R* mash-up actually gets the vehicle closer to its original US/EU source inspiration than the actual Japanese model being copied. I do still like the Savestra, especially being almost Kei car sized, but can't love that front end. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 23:08, February 12, 2018 (UTC)

Re: Hustler

I thought it was, as I tested it in first-person view since the speedometer needle reached at least 120 MPH, though as you mentioned, you did showed me a link regarding top speeds. Yes, I know my activities have been pretty lax lately, and my edits are looking rather low-quality, especially owing the fact that the game is still relatively unstable for me (including latency issues). And issues outside of PC as well too. JohnSignature 22:03, February 13, 2018 (UTC)

Deep Inside Walkthrough

I've had some stuff "in stock" for that for a while (back when I recreated the page for the movie itself. Unfortunately it's one of those missions that disallow free camera edits in the video editor. See if you can get a good image of the actress. She always uses the same NPC character model as the Runaway Bride but given her dialogue before she gets ejected, I think she deserves a page. I've not been able to time a good screengrab of her yet. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 10:44, February 15, 2018 (UTC)

I literally just grabbed some generic mission walkthrough screenshots just now, but I'm trying my best to get screenshots of those hidden details. Watching Whatever's video about this mission was really interesting. Looking into a way to disable the "cannot record at this time" business but I don't think that's possible, so I might have to resort to using Whatever's video/screenshots as a reference (god knows how he did it, some RAGE plugin stuff I imagine). Monk Talk 10:55, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
Okay, all done. Also got images of three characters in the mission, like you asked. Not sure what we're gonna do with them. Does she warrant a page? Also, do we have a name for the director dude?
Monk Talk 13:48, February 15, 2018 (UTC)
Nice work, I was obviously mistaken about her character model, that's the Professional model ped as seen in Director Mode (and Roberts uses the Costume>Spy Director Mode character model). I've tried sneaking around to listen to dialogue to get any clues about IDs for her or the Director guy. I'm calling him 2nd Unit director since Deep Inside is stated to be directed by Anton B. As far as I can tell, Director guy is a unique character model though (grey beard = Spielberg/Lucas parody?). I think they both warrant a page. Will do some more replays to see if I can get anything to flesh out the director guy profile. Actress/model has her dialogue and the post-mission Bleets to give her some detail. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 20:12, February 15, 2018 (UTC)

(Reset indent)Added a few shots and cleaned up some of your walkthrough :) I noticed you thought you needed to add Left stick click to the button template, isn't it just PS3 L3? I used that anyway.

So, the Brit film director - still can't get much for him but we've got pages for much more minor characters than him and he does appear to be a unique model. The actress/model I have her full dialogue so can build something decent (and add references for some of Franklin's family history) and she is a unique model. Tina the assistant just uses generic Director Mode Professional>Media Type model but I may create her too, since she is named at least. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 23:20, February 15, 2018 (UTC)

@Button - oh cool, didn't notice. Need an xbox counterpart though, and a PC key for the article since I didn't catch what it was. Btw, ejector seat is apparently left direction button according to files, but when I played through, pc hooked up with an xbox controller, showed X (square on ps). Not sure if it was updated in the updated files but that's strange. Ironic because B (circle) would've been more fitting given its a red button :p
@Actors - cool. I'd probably support the creation of all of them. If they're named or have a unique model, they really should have an article. We can at least say Tina is either a forgetful bitch or just wants to kill off brandon with pineapples :-p
The actress certainly offers a lot of information, I'm not even sure if the Franklin article includes information released from this mission in the escape scene. Monk Talk 23:34, February 15, 2018 (UTC)

Editor bugs

Yeah, it's the upgrade to the Classic Rich Text Editor they did last month to make it usable on complex coded pages (as I mentioned on the noticeboard when it revealed the "missing span close tag" bugs in a couple of our templates), new Visual Editor doesn't do it AFAIK.

As far as I can tell, most of this is "feature not a bug", especially in-line template editing - the infobox links for example are by design so they can be edited in WYSIWYG mode without needing source mode.

As for the page compaction it does at the end of templates... I don't think it's a bug but a workaround may be to add a <br> at the end of the affected templates so when it compacts, it doesn't actually risk breaking the page formatting. I've noticed a lot of my "Undo" actions in the RTE are trimming trailing spaces and compacting source code (undoing more than the affected edit and reducing the net byte size of the page) but not actually adversely affecting page formatting. They probably see this as a feature too, actually fixing source code on the pages and reducing overall space slightly (there isn't really a technical need to have carriage returns after a template closure or html tags other than a slight improvement to the ease of reading/editing in source mode).

The pages look too "spaced out" in RTE mode and I can see users trying to remove the blank space in the editor without realising that the additional space isn't rendering in the actual page.

The most annoying aspect of it, IMO, is it hides all our instructional/warning source code comments when users are no longer forced to edit in source mode. They have to hover over the comment icon to see it.

Maybe it's their way of trying to force everyone onto the Visual Editor so they can decommission the RTE completely. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 22:18, February 15, 2018 (UTC)

How does a bot do a specific editing? (Curious) Meraj11703121 (talk) 18:33, February 23, 2018 (UTC)

The bot doesn't really do anything "specific". It works through a list of pages I give it (usually from a category, such as vehicles, characters, missions, etc) and repeats the process I give it, for example, replacing a specific example of text/characters/code/etc with something else. I operate it, but once I give it an instruction, it'll get on with working through the list of articles in the background. :) Monk Talk 19:00, February 23, 2018 (UTC)

Go to Special:Preferences and under "Signature" you can apply a custom signature. Be sure to tick the "wikitext" checkbox if you are going to use code in your signature. Monk Talk 22:00, February 23, 2018 (UTC)

Interesting Factoid

Keep in mind this is on the PS4 version of Online (and I'm not sure how many people do this), but apparently if you park your Deluxo on your Yacht (I have a friend that does this) and then move the Yacht, the car gets destroyed. Perhaps that might be something to add to the relevant pages just as a precaution? My friend didn't have to pay for the car, but that might not be all the time. Thoughts? CelticDragon0 (talk) 18:47, February 23, 2018 (UTC)

Sounds interesting. Maybe it applies to any vehicle, though. Could do with more testing first, as I've never really thought of moving a yacht with a car on it. Monk Talk 19:00, February 23, 2018 (UTC)

'Deleted' Vehicle Cargo steal missions

Hey, I saw you added the 'Deleted Content in GTA Online' category to this page. But it hasn't been deleted; it's still rather popular in the game. Is that some kind of an error/mistake? GTAVScore (talk) 04:55, February 26, 2018 (UTC)

No, it hasn't been available for the past two months. However I reckon it's temporarily disabled and yet to be fixed, rather than removed. That it will come back online soon as an update drops. Noirlime4L (talk) 07:40, February 26, 2018 (UTC)
The category implies that at least one was deleted, if you scroll down the page, you can see which section it is located at. It's been temporarily disabled due to a bug. I fucking hope they forget to re-enable it, though. Monk Talk 08:17, February 26, 2018 (UTC)

Page poll

It is a good idea, but I would have made a subpage Vehicle Cargo/StealMissions/Poll and embedded it, that way you can retain the poll results after you remove the link from the page and possibly protect it - at the moment anyone can edit it. You may want to add an "Other" or "None of the above" option to the poll. Also wikia polls are very unreliable - but I'm sure you know that :) . Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 20:52, February 27, 2018 (UTC)

Just tested voting (after you protected, before you added the other option - so vote was reset by adding the optiion) with this old account (non-admin) to make sure standard users could vote on an admin-protected poll page - all good. smurfy (coms) 21:11, February 27, 2018 (UTC)

Re: Images

Sure, I'll upload more images soon. Yeah, I know about the editor and in fact I uploaded many 1920x1080 images last year, but sometimes if I'm at a good spot I use Snapmatic occasionally. That pic is months old actually, I realized I had it a few days ago while I was deleting photos in the Social Club xD 960x540 is still more than enough for a wiki in my opinion, even though I also prefer using 1920x1080 if possible. Incorrect template

Hi, leaving a message here again. Just to let you know, I stumbled upon two pages using the gallery template to store collections of videos, which made them inaccessible (here and here, in the Videos section). Not sure if it's due to changes to the template itself over the past, so there may be more pages suffering the same issue.

And by the way, about that black Stockade, why not recording a clip on approaching? :) Noirlime4L (talk) 17:35, February 28, 2018 (UTC)

That would be because those videos don't exist, not because of the gallery tags ;)
@BlackStockade AFAIK, I tried to, but it just said "Camera angles cannot be changed in the video editor at this time". Either way, I think I'll be able to recreate this variant with a trainer as the vehicle colours are pretty obviously just metallic black :D Monk Talk 17:49, February 28, 2018 (UTC)

Well, tbh, I think it's hard for anyone else to be active when we're on all the time doing it all immediately. Even then, I'm not being very productive on the wiki lately - work is insane and I'm mostly just patrolling (monitoring/correcting/reverting the recent activity). Perhaps if I change my habit to only come on and review once or twice a day, they might find they have something more to do. :)  Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 10:42, March 6, 2018 (UTC)

Vehicle Cargo

A couple of formatting issues with wrapping around the infoboxes, was thinking they may need sub-sub pages for each steal type once it makes the whole thing too long (when each one has a detailed gallery). But yeah, I've been watching and have been tempted to work on it (since it is my favourite activity in game, not just for the money) but knew from your notes that you had stuff lined up so didn't want to duplicate effort. We even have all the gang versions, all the mission versions, etc. There's a few to come that might actually surprise you :P I did all the boats, vans/trucks and helicopters.
Yeah, the navbox is gonna need some changes - like how GTA V's navbox lists each variant in brackets, we're gonna need to do that, for example, Reefer which has Reefer2, etc, and the gang versions are entirely separate models rather than colours/mods. Monk Talk 17:35, March 14, 2018 (UTC)
I see. Nice that someone decided to help you with the mission and so far, it's working very well. That'd be nice. Actually, when I was editing the Police Maverick page, I noticed something - the "first name" = pagename thing wouldn't make sense on that article, since the Polmav's first appearance was "VCPD Maverick" - in fact, thinking about it, the Jetmax doesn't make sense either, since it's first appearance is Cuban Jetmax, as only a gang boat. Perhaps these two are exceptions since they're 1) named generic in the files (polmav and jetmax) and 2) change to generic vehicles later on anyway. Monk Talk 18:02, March 14, 2018 (UTC)
Mmm... That's true for the Jetmax though, as the VCPD Maverick name is from... VCS? Anyway, I think you're right, since the points given are valid. GTA Wiki: Trivia
Just because Trivia is accepted, doesn't make it a necessity. You can see quite clearly that the policy states that while we allow it, we are heavily against it.
Quite rightly, trivia does come in useful as information such as the many references in the GTA series makes no sense when it's thrown into the main body of the article, so the trivia serves as an additional area for this kind of information.
However, on that note, it isn't important to know what certain words mean - if you do, that's fine, but GTA Wiki isn't here to explain things like that, we aren't a dictionary, a thesaurus or a translator. The only acceptable form of this is when the name is a clear reference to something (for example, the Roosevelt, which deserves notation, or the Palmer-Taylor Power Station for obvious reason). If you spot anything that doesn't deserve a spot, remove it, or move it to the body of the article.
In summary, unless the vehicle/page name is a reference to the real world, it doesn't deserve a mention in the trivia. Monk Talk 19:07, March 21, 2018 (UTC)

Great pics, Monk!
I'm so excited for the Mustangs. You know, the Ellie and the Dominator GTX. Definitely going to buy them.
One more thing, do you think that Ellie is a proper name for a muscle car?
Like, you're in a Online muscle car meet:
— I own a Buccaneer.
— And I own a Phoenix, true american muscle. And you?
— Oh, me? I own an Ellie.
I know that Rockstar love to do references to other things, but Dominator Classic would be better, IMO.

I wish they added Death Dominator or something like that. You know, the Mustang in the 'Death Race' movie, the one equipped with a Minigun on its hood? Meraj11703121 22:09, March 25, 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, Ellie is pretty boring. To me, I think they lost an opportunity with its name, same with Torero (Infernus Classic, still a nice name) Stromberg (Ardent Classic). On the other hand, GTX annoys me, for a really nerdy reason, being that I confused it with "GXT" which is the file type for the display name of things in the game haha. Personally, I love both of these cars, but I don't think I'll buy them straight away. My eyes are set on the Issi Classic right now, and until I save enough money to still have more than 5 million after buying both Dominators (or at least the Ellie) AND a Caracara (that bitch is replacing my Dubsta 6x6) and a sea Sparrow (second priority), they ain't my priority haha. Re: Concerns

Ever since I was hit by the hurricane last September, my editing skills has faltered, and my staff skills followed suit afterwards due to lack of internet (and mobile wasn't of help due to nonexistent reception as a result). I knew I was unfit to be the staff yet at the same time, I wanted to prove that I can still be active on a regular basis... at least, that was months ago before sh*t hit the fan, of course. I know you wouldn't appreciate me lying, let alone making excuses, but, my lack of efforts are starting to show, and I'm sorry if I've disappointed you and the others. Suppose I have to go back to basics as a regular user if I'm not too entirely active. RE: Dominators

They look great! Cool color choice for the Ellie :)

But one little thing caught my attention... The red thing on the upper left corner of the Flash GT pics. It does not look very well in the images and would be better if it wasn't there, IMO. ;) Ronald (talk) 23:17, March 28, 2018 (UTC)

Completely disagree - Ellie is a definite fail - colour and lighting is too dark to show detail - particularly in the front end and grille, and it blends with poor background choice so the roof line disappears into the shadows. GB200 and Flash GT have non-neutral backgrounds (red block on Flash GT, pink flowers on GB200). The rest look OK though. :) Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 00:14, March 29, 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, Kiwi, you're right. The Ellie is pretty dark, image was probably taken in the morning or at a cloudy day, although its color also contributes to this.
You can see waaaay more imperfections than me, buddy xD Ronald (talk) 00:53, March 29, 2018 (UTC)
All vehicles were taken in the same clear conditions and same times. It's probably just the fact that the Ellie's dark green colour doesn't work with that road surface and shading area. I'll try again with that one. Also I took the pictures in the same locations as last time just for consistency, not considering the inconsistencies in backgrounds. They were taken there in the first place as I forced them to spawn in traffic in richman, but now scripthook was updated I can spawn them where I want Monk Talk 07:23, March 29, 2018 (UTC)

Hey Monk.

During gameplay I had a friend with an Akula. Now on the wiki page it says 'it can take 2 homing missiles from aircraft before it starts to smoke and a 4th one will make it cut out and crash'-I have found this is no longer true-it may have been changed in recent updates. It only took 2 homing rockets from a craft to take my friend out of the sky. I'll leave it to your discretion if the page should be changed CelticDragon0 (talk) 09:26, March 29, 2018 (UTC)

Hey. So, since I nor my friends do not own an Akula, would you be able to carry out some durability tests on it?
Vehicles' durability differ when players are in them or not. It's an interesting mechanic.
Essentially, if you could test the following:
    • How many homing missile launcher shots the Akula takes when no one is in it.
    • How many homing missile launcher shots the Akula takes when a pilot is in it.
    • How many homing missile launcher shots the Akula takes when two occupants are in it.
    • How many homing missiles from an aircraft shots the Akula takes when a pilot is in it.
If it does indeed take more missiles than 2, feel free to update the article. See what you get :) Monk Talk 17:19, March 29, 2018 (UTC)

Looks like they did nerf the Akula-one homing missile had it smoking and another killed it-that was with no one, pilot only and two people. I used a Buzzard on it with a pilot and one shot made it extremely unstable and light smoke started coming out, second shot make the instabilty worse, sending it into the ground and killing it, but that 'death' wasn't due to explosion. I'll change it later from 4 to 2. Thanks Monk CelticDragon0 (talk) 08:39, March 30, 2018 (UTC)

Hey Monky!

Interesting find with my friend-depending on where the CEO/VIP starting Headhunter VIP Work is, the targets generate in that area. I don't think whoever listed the stationary targets ever tried it outside Los Santos proper. We just tested this up by Sandy Shores and one of the stationaries was at Paleto Cove. Keep in mind this was done on the PS4 but should be the same among all platforms, save those that do not have access to this content (e.g. PS3 and Xbox 360) CelticDragon0 (talk) 10:59, April 1, 2018 (UTC)

Hey there. The locations of the targets listed on the article is not complete - I'm aware there are around 50 stationary locations, I've only really gotten through documenting most of the LS ones, even though I've played this mission around 300 times and have discovered every possibility, hence, the list is marked as a stub. Still, the article is in a lot better condition than it was before christmas last year thanks to my work on it recently, along with most of the other VIP work missions :) Feel free to expand the list, but try to be specific - I know it can be really difficult sometimes. :) Monk Talk 11:06, April 1, 2018 (UTC)

So what's up now?

With the image replacements?

Autarch, Cyclone, RCV, and Nero Custom to name a few were not updated in-game since the images were taken. Or is there some other reason for that? Seems to have gotten cut off in the summary then. V-michael-trunk-miniV-franklin-trunk-miniV-trevor-trunk-mini 04-01-2018, 08:35:50 (EDT)

the full explanation was given in the upload summary but me being dumb didnt realise it wouldn't add the full summary to existing files, only the new ones. Basically I went through the image table and picked out a few that had angles a little off compared to other vehicles in that class - didn't want to be too picky, so I also foiled it down to color schemes - tried to pick a better variation of color, better lighting angles, better overall position for the camera, for example, the RCV was a little too low and quite a wide angle in comparison to the Riot so I redid the camera (also the color since that blue one gives that category a nicer variation in color schemes). Nero Custom, meh, I didn't really like the roadsurface, didn't really match the overall luxury styling of the car (sorry haha) and Autarch, I loved the idea of the racetrack but red was already a pretty overused color in the super category, and the angle caused by the racetrack itself didn't really match most of the other super cars. Cyclone was again a very wide angle compared to other supers and too close to the front, and T20 was too high up.
Didn't mean to piss you off if I did. These particular images have been on my mind for a while, along with a few of my own (its not just yours :p) and a couple of the police ones from Switch, so I went ahead and redid them. Sorry again. Monk Talk 12:42, April 1, 2018 (UTC)
IMO the color on the RCV (and the general in-game brightness on the images) doesn't work too well on it. It's pretty hard to see the front details. And nah no worries lol. V-michael-trunk-miniV-franklin-trunk-miniV-trevor-trunk-mini 04-01-2018, 08:51:53 (EDT)
What brightness do you have your game set to? I agree, I think its too dark, actually. Thankfully, not all of the images are affected by it so much that you cant see detail, but I think the ambulance polmav and the rcv are the two that lose detail because of low brightness. Monk Talk 12:55, April 1, 2018 (UTC)
It's a bit below halfway from what I recall. Around halfway in general works the best - too much and the images look washed out, too little and the images look dark. V-michael-trunk-miniV-franklin-trunk-miniV-trevor-trunk-mini 04-01-2018, 09:03:18 (EDT)

Hey Monk, I was wondering if we have the fonts from GTA games. For example, notice the difference between the fonts used in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas & Grand Theft Auto V. If we don't have them, is there any possibility to create them (i.e. method, need or interest)? I'm asking because I know very little about wikitext. Meraj11703121 18:46, April 1, 2018 (UTC)

Set day time to 12 am, freeze time, Extra Sunny weather, freeze weather, disable ped/traffic, make player invisible, fly the aircraft around off-shore (usually near LSIA), record the whole thing, open vehicle doors, close, etc, then edit in R* editor. Dashboard is always a separate clip. Fly the vehicle around different ways, keep it flat, then roll it over, barrel it, fly upside down, etc, so then you can basically reenact what you'd be doing with a land vehicle. Or, enable airbrake and rotate the vehicle. Monk Talk 15:53, April 6, 2018 (UTC)

BTW what is going on with the cars now? I've seen a mod about engine flags removal, which they were supposed to alter the performance of vehicles to avoid tricks like the "double-clutch" and the "curb/kerb boosting". Any idea if those are on the current update or is applied to all vehicles? --BodyArmor-GTACW-Android SWAT Cam F VehicleWeapon-GTACW-Android Detonator-GTACW-Android Crate-GTACW-Android 23:49, April 6, 2018 (UTC)

Basically r* started adding a new subhandling data property called EngineResistance which seemingly limits vehicle's performance. From what I've gathered, its causing the new vehicles to have weird shift rates and all sorts.
What's more interesting is how the vehicles with digital dashboards' speeds don't match the actual speeds - likely because the dashboard doesn't take into account the subhandling EngineResistance property, really weird. Either way, it definitely causes vehicles to lose some speed; the new Entity XXR has a MaxVelFlat value of 170, which is 10 kmh more than the Adder, definitely the highest speed yet, but despite that, has a speed similar to the latest super cars. We do have a new statistically fastest car tho, the Tezeract is indeed the statistical leader now; 126 mph Monk Talk 13:28, April 9, 2018 (UTC)
I see. What are they trying to do? RPM limitations? In my times, an Infernus can beat the shit out of these newbie cars. XD
But anyway. I guess that explains the whole concept of the engine resistance. At least the Tezeract was innocent from the whole drama and became the fastest car in the game, statistically. :P

I thought that Rockstar Games treats GTA Online as separate game

Not as part of GTA V. That's I was adding categories regarding GTA Online. Can you explain me this? Is GTA Online an individual game or part of GTA V?Kintobor (talk) 15:27, April 15, 2018 (UTC)Kintobor

GTA V and GTA Online are separate games, but things that are shared throughout the game are considered GTA V content, such as the map itself and in-game brands.
Since GTA Online has greatly expanded only on itself, such as the introduction of new characters, weapons and vehicles exclusive to GTA Online, it's become necessary to have categories for these things in GTA Online, Vehicles, Characters, Missions and Weapons.
However, where we draw the line is Exclusive Enhanced Version. Since GTA Online can only be played on a GTA V disk, Exclusive Enhanced Version is, as a whole, GTA V content, not GTA Online, and so we don't need a category Exclusive Enhanced version content in GTA Online. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Monkeypolice188 (talkcontribs) Please remember to sign your talk page messages with ~~~~.

Welcome. I'd like to know what was wrong with my edit (Pegassi Tezeract).

Best regards, Katte12

The Tezeract is a modern concept car that resembles the Terzo Millenio as already stated in the article. Considering we already have an entirely separate Grotti concept car, the X80 Proto, based on the F80, it's pretty unlikely they've used the same design influences again. Besides, I see no similarities with regards to specific points, considering both cars are already similar in shape in real life, as are most concept hypercars. Monk Talk 21:05, April 19, 2018 (UTC)

Hi, man. First of all, can you please unlock "Prologue" page? My first (ever) corrections here were only about the order of trivia facts, I just change them in a more chronological order, to follow the mission's story. I didn't even add anything, so why someone (not you) erase half of trivia facts, and you don't even let me bring it back. Looks like vandalism, really.

Second, I found some GTA channel here, the dude checks out many possibilities and mission failures, so can we give external link at "Conditions of mission failure" to his videos, like in Wikipedia? Like [1] will go to It's kinda prooflink to show some of mission failures.

Oh, and sorry for my Enlish if I made mistakes. —Preceding unsigned comment added by FatalistGTA (talkcontribs) Please remember to sign your talk page messages with ~~~~.

Portable Infoboxes

Hi! I'm Luqgreg, a member of Vanguard team. We're users who volunteer to help communities adopt to new technologies and features, like content portability. Even though you've already migrated most of your infoboxes to portable infobox markup here, GTA Wiki is still high priority for us. We'd like to help with converting remaining infoboxes to PIs. Were there any issues that stopped you from doing the rest? I've tried to contact admin responsible for templates on your wiki, but I see that he is barely active, so I'm contacting you instead.

We'd really like to get working on your community, but we would appreciate your go-ahead. Also, if you have any questions, or this is the wrong place for this kind of a discussion, please let me know. Thanks!

Otherwise, you can approve them by clicking "Approve this draft" button on drafts pages or I can do that if you want. By the way, I've also noticed that you have a lot of unused CSS here, that was used for older versions of PIs. I think it should be cleaned up, it just makes finding specific selectors and editing it much harder.

I have a question

I know that in Grand Theft Auto V there is a soapboxer Jesse who is an impersonator of Jesus Christ. I also read that killing him would make a face model that resembles Jesus' face when he is crucified. His one eye would be swollen shut while the other, is slightly open. I just want to know if this character caused any controversy in real life. I'm so curious about that. Anyway, for me, this character should never appear in any of GTA games because Christians would take it as an insult. I noticed that Rockstar often makes parodies of real things but they shouldn't go too far with these parodies.Kintobor (talk) 21:32, May 20, 2018 (UTC)Kintobor

Hi Monk. I need you to answer this question. I have started a new game and recently done Mr. Philips mission. But, the Stock Car Races is not opening for me. And I'm on PS4. Do I have to buy a DLC for it or it'll open later? GTAFan86 (talk) 16:02, May 23, 2018 (UTC)

The stock car races are for returning players only, as far as I know. If you haven't returned from PS3 under the same Social Club account, you won't be able to play them. You can still purchase the vehicles, albeit for a cost, in GTA Online. - Monk (Bureaucrat Bureaucrat) Talk 16:31, May 24, 2018 (UTC)
Hmm okay thank you. What I did was purchase the GTA V disc for PS4 and never used Social Club account. I played the game on PS3 but it was pirate. So I'm not a returning player. Anyway, also, I never played GTA Online and never bought any of the DLCs. Other than that, Thank you for your answer. Take care. GTAFan86 (talk) 20:41, May 24, 2018 (UTC)

I play the mobile version of GTA: SA, and I found out, that the black boxvile used for buglary missions, when enters, are explicitly named "boxburg". Should this be counted as a seperate vehicle and has it's seperate page? I'm asking you because you might have knowledge of modding and digging in files, so you could explain this.

SUPER4geditTANK (talk) 10:51, May 25, 2018 (UTC)

While the general rule states that vehicles with different names are to be listed on separate articles for the purpose of consistency, I believe the Boxburg is only called Boxburg in the mobile port of the game, and I also believe this is down to a glitch and not an intended name, so it should remain on the Boxville article. - Monk (Bureaucrat Bureaucrat) Talk 11:55, May 25, 2018 (UTC)

Yo Monk, I was wondering if GTA Wiki accepts affiliations to Wikia's that aren't related to GTA? I wanted to affiliate my "Manhunt Fanon Wiki" with "GTA Wiki" sincse I would like to use a few images from here. Or if I could get permission to use images from here to the Manhunt Fanon Wiki. Please give your RE on my talk page, Thanks! --MilitiaForce 17:40, May 26, 2018 (UTC)

Since Manhunt is a Rockstar game, I see no problem in that. Link me to it and I'll get onto it asap. Monk (Bureaucrat Bureaucrat) Talk 17:46, May 26, 2018 (UTC)

Wiki Link

Hey here's the link to the wiki, it won't be cancer like GTA Myths Wiki so no worries. Sorry for not messaging you earlier I was busy. --MilitiaForce 12:14, May 27, 2018 (UTC)

It doesn't have a great deal of content right now so I won't add it yet. Get back to me when it has some more pages. So far it's looking good, but I know you too well, you don't like to finish wikis :P Monk (Bureaucrat Bureaucrat) Talk 12:32, May 27, 2018 (UTC)
Lmao, I will actually finish this one believe it or not, I'm putting a lot of time and effort into it. I will message you when I get 50-60 pages. --MilitiaForce 12:53, May 27, 2018 (UTC)

(In relation to Post OP)

" (I'm not liking this "rival" thing. Companies aren't always out to rival each other, let's just stick to the facts.) "

Though I can see your point, the fact is that the surgery is called *sex* reassignment. The definition of gender (" the state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones). ") implies that your gender can be chosen, while sex is more biological (hence requiring surgery).

Cheers regardless,

Easter Eggs

Hey Monk, since gta myths is not affiliated with this wiki why dont we include the easter eggs from the GTA series here to make this wiki a proper database of GTA series? On a side note, I have started editing here since my exams are over and there is no work (for a time) to do and can you also please notify me of any policy changes here since I left this wiki.-- MythHunter 007 Talk 10:56, May 30, 2018 (UTC)

Good idea. I think the Easter Egg pages are in great need of improving, since we no longer rely on MW, it's important they are absolutely perfect. Monk (Bureaucrat Bureaucrat) Talk 11:05, May 30, 2018 (UTC)
I can help here on 3D Universe EEs. Just tell me when and where to start.--MythHunter 007 Talk 11:10, May 30, 2018 (UTC)
