...People from around the country have flocked here to come and train for this sport [referring to gambling]. You know, what we're doing here is illegal in most states of the union...

The currently unnamed Western U.S. State is an American state in the HD Universe of the Grand Theft Auto series, referenced in Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto Online.

Description[]

The state is first seen briefly on the Venturas Poker Challenge TV show in Grand Theft Auto IV, and is depicted as a state with legalized gambling, often getting visitors from states in which gambling is prohibited by law.

The state itself is never referred to by name, although it is said that the city of Las Venturas is located within the state.

It should be noted that unlike the city's 3D Universe counterpart, the State of San Andreas was never mentioned as being the name of Las Venturas' state.

Furthermore in The Chop Shop update for Grand Theft Auto Online, two updated U.S. state license plates were introduced – a present-day State of Liberty license plate, and a Las Venturas license plate inspired by a real-life Nevada license plate issued from 2001 to 2016.[1]

It is the in-game counterpart for the real-life State of Nevada, as evidenced by the license plate.

Trivia[]

  • The footage of Las Venturas and Bone County seen on the Venturas Poker Challenge uses stock footage from the alternative 3D Universe version of Las Venturas in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, the reason being that the HD Universe version of Las Venturas has yet to be fully developed by Rockstar North.
    • The silhouette of the 3D Universe's State of San Andreas (including Los Santos and San Fierro) is also used to represent the unnamed Nevada-inspired state in the TV show, due to the same aforementioned reason.
