I'm ashamed to admit that one of the causes of our mutual problem appears to have been the loose tongue of a man I used to trust. I've been carrying Gonzalez for years, but now his incompetence reaches new heights! It is only right that you kill Gonzalez...

Treacherous Swine is the first mission in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City given to protagonist Tommy Vercetti by retired army colonel Juan Cortez from his yacht docked in Ocean Bay Marina in Ocean Beach, Vice City.

Mission[]

After receiving a phone call from Cortez for a job, Tommy meets Cortez at his yacht. Cortez tells Tommy that Gonzalez, a man who Cortez has trusted for years, has now become too incompetent and owes things to Cortez. He orders Tommy to kill Gonzalez and gives him a chainsaw, telling him that he will be rewarded.

Tommy goes to a penthouse Gonzalez was at in Vice Point where Gonzalez is being protected by two of Diaz's men. Once in the penthouse, Gonzales spots Tommy and attempts to flee. Tommy quickly chases Gonzalez down and kills him; the mission will result in a failure if Gonzales manages to reach the Washington Beach Police Station. Once he is killed, the police will be alarmed and a two-star wanted level will be gained. Tommy drives to the nearest Pay 'n' Spray to remove his wanted level.

Mission Objectives[]

In order to complete the mission the player must:

  • Go and kill Gonzalez.
  • The Vice City Police are on to you! Get into a vehicle.
  • Get to the Pay 'N' Spray in Vice Point.

Deaths[]

  • Gonzalez – Killed by Tommy Vercetti for being involved in the drug deal at the beginning of the game and for betraying Colonel Cortez.
  • Gonzalez's bodyguards (optional) – Can be killed by Tommy for getting in his way when trying to kill Gonzalez.

Reward[]

The reward for completing this mission is $250 and the mission Mall Shootout is unlocked. The Machete may now be adquired at Bunch of Tools for $100 and the Casual Outfit can now be obtained from the Gash store in the North Point Mall.

Transcript[]

Transcript
Tommy Vercetti goes to visit Juan Cortez aboard his yacht.
Cortez: Mr. Vercetti!
Tommy: Colonel.
A waitress offers a cooked lobster on a plate.
Cortez: Thank you for coming. Please sit. Lobster?
Tommy: No, thanks.
Tommy sits down.
Cortez: I'm ashamed to admit that one of the causes of our mutual problem appears to have been the loose tongue of a man I used to trust. I've been carrying Gonzalez for years, but now his incompetence reaches new heights! It is only right that you kill Gonzalez...
Tommy: Did he do it? It's the money that's important to me.
Cortez: For this kindness I'll reward you, and then we will find your money together. He will be at his penthouse, half drunk probably. Use this...
Cortez hands Tommy a chainsaw. Tommy leaves the yacht and heads toward Gonzalez' penthouse in Vice Point. Upon arriving there, he finds Gonzalez talking with one of Ricardo Diaz' men.
Tommy: I'm going to shut that big mouth of yours!
Gonzalez: Eh! He's got a blade!
Tommy: Stop running, you fat slimeball!
Gonzalez runs off from Tommy while his guards attack Tommy.
Gonzalez: Get away from me, you cheap bastard!
NOTE: The following lines of dialogue will play only if Gonzalez leaves the penthouse.
Gonzalez: Oh, sweet Jesus, I've wasted my life and my looks!
Tommy: Stand still and I'll make it quick!
Gonzalez: I'll pay you double, Tommy! DOUBLE!
Tommy: Quit your squealing, no one cares, fatso.
Tommy kills Gonzalez and attracts attention of the VCPD. Tommy loses the cops, either by collecting police bribes or going to a Pay 'n' Spray.

Trivia[]

  • The song that can be heard playing in the background during the opening cutscene is "Summer Madness" by Kool & the Gang. The song is also featured on the in-game radio station Fever 105 and is heard in Vice City's first trailer.
  • Upon arriving at Gonzalez's penthouse, the player will automatically receive a chainsaw, even if they replaced the provided chainsaw with a different melee weapon.
  • There is a hidden package on top of the penthouse. Getting it before Gonzales exits the roof is the best way to collect it early in the game. Otherwise, the player will be able to get it only with the help of a helicopter.
  • If the player hesitates killing Gonzalez for too long, he will run inside the Washington Beach Police Station, failing the mission.
