“We'll need to recover the black box after bringing down the plane. That's not easy in the Alamo Sea.”

Pavel:

“What you need is portable sonar equipments, yes? I know a salvage crew who might have such a thing. Sending you their location.”

Sonar Equipment is a preparation mission for The Black Box File, featured in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of Agents of Sabotage update.

Description[]

After accepting the mission, Jodi will tell the player that they must retrieve the black box after the Cargo Plane crashes in the Alamo Sea. Pavel suggests the player to use portable sonar equipment that can be acquired from a salvage crew he met before. Shortly after, he rephrases it, pointing out that he pissed them off and they are probably expecting visits.

Pavel sends the location (Terminal/Elysian Island/Banning) of the hostile salvage crew, who have the equipment stored on a box inside a Tug boat.

Search the docks

for the salvage crew's tugboat containing the sonar equipment.

The player must interact with the storage box in order to pick the sonar equipment from a briefcase inside it. After collecting the briefcase containing the equipment, Pavel tells the player to drop the item at the Darnell Bros. Garment Factory to complete the mission.

The game help text can tell the player to go to Terminal but the real location is actually Elysian Island.
