The Beat 102.7 is a radio station in Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes from Liberty City that plays contemporary hip-hop and R&B.

Description[]

Liberty City's home for hip-hop rounds out the original mixshows from Green Lantern and Mister Cee with two all new radio shows mixed by DJs Funkmaster Flex and Statik Selektah. The original Big Dog Pit Bull and Car Show Kingpin, Funkmaster Flex presents star-studded club bangers while the boom-bap ambassador, Statik Selektah presents a mix of truly exclusive original songs from the underground's elite.
The Lost and Damned website

The station is hosted by DJ Mister Cee and DJ Green Lantern in GTA IV, and by Funkmaster Flex and Statik Selektah in EFLC. It is based on New York City's hip-hop and R&B radio station, Hot 97. The playlists heavily emphasise the New York City hip-hop scene, with the vast majority of artists coming from that area, though some artists from the South and Midwest are also featured. A portion of the tracklist is exclusive to each stand-alone game, but downloading The Lost and Damned for GTA IV updates the station to include all songs. The Beat 102.7 Studios are located in Star Junction, Algonquin.

It is Armando Torres's, Brucie Kibbutz's, Dwayne Forge's, and Yusuf Amir's favorite radio station. It is also liked by Patrick McReary, Playboy X, Bobby Jefferson, and Malc.

Mike Cala Concept[]

Additionally, a concept design for the back cover of The Music of Grand Theft Auto IV, shared by former developer Mike Cala, unveils several previously undisclosed songs.[3] It remains unclear whether these tracks were ever intended for the final tracklist or if they were merely placeholder titles for the cover design. While the songs are not categorized by radio stations, one can infer their likely associations based on genre and release date. The following song would align with the theme of The Beat 102.7:

The Beat 102.7 is the most advertised station in the city, with nine billboards[4] (some of which are double-sided) and posters[5].

Trivia[]

  • The Beat 102.7 is called "Beat 95" in the game files. This was most likely the beta name of the station. When Johnny Klebitz asks a taxi driver to tune into the station, he might say, "Yo, you mind putting it over to 95.5?"
  • At the end of DJ Green Lantern's mix, he says that Mr. Cee is up next. However if it's heard while playing the standalone versions of The Lost and Damned/The Ballad of Gay Tony or Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition, it goes to Funkmaster Flex's mix.
  • DJ Green Lantern and Statik Selektak's songs were recorded exclusively for GTA IV and EFLC.
  • During "Love Lockdown" by Kanye West, Funkmaster Flex mentions Ernesto Asaltacunas, saying he dresses and looks ridiculous and "What age are we talking about?", this is a reference to an infamous R. Kelly interview on BET that happened around the time of the game's release.
