The Templar Hotels are two buildings in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online located at the south-east of Legion Square in Mission Row, Los Santos. The northern building is located on Vespucci Boulevard, while the southern one is demarcated by Vespucci Boulevard, Fantastic Place and Adam's Apple Boulevard.

Influence[]

The Templar Hotel seems to be based on the real-life Cecil Hotel between 6th and 7th street in Los Angeles,[1] the Cecil Hotel is also known as Los Angeles' deadliest hotel, having housed criminals such as Richard Ramirez and the Hillside Stranglers. The water tank on the Templar Hotel roof is a reference to a dead body that was once found in a cistern that supplied water to the entire hotel. It is the only building in the Mission Row area with a water tank, and its real-life counterpart is also based in Skid Row, sitting just around the corner from a Police Station.

The southern building, located on the same city block as The Vault, makes a very strong defensive position when used effectively. Using the building as a star fort, it is possible to defend the only stairs leading to it without exposing himself too much. Waiting a player to be on the higher ladder to shoot him defenseless in the back is both a safe and effective way of preventing any access from the ground. The lack of higher buildings in the area also limits the effectiveness of parachuting on it.

The southern building is the highest building in this area reachable while on foot, without the need of a helicopter or a parachute. The northern building and the building just northeast are the only two buildings higher than it and close enough to see players on it. Any other building is either lower, or too far away to see other players.

The "Templar Hotel" sign and the two blocks on the roof also provide good protection against kamikazes and bombings. Another strength of the building is the size of its roof, which allows losing cops before they reach the roof, and is large enough to run to a safe side, if an airstrike is detected early.

Finally, several straight streets allow shooting enemies at a long range. It is also possible to shoot at the Los Santos Customs in La Mesa from the roof of the southern Templar Hotel.

Trivia[]

  • The hotels take their name from the Knights Templar, a medieval military order famous for taking part in the Crusades, and eventually depossessed of all their properties by the king of France and condemned for heresy by the Pope during early 14th century. The signs on the roofs reuse the design of the cross used by the Templars, although stretched.
  • There are several real-life buildings called the Templar Hotel, including one located in Toronto, Ontario, and another in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England.
