The Taxi is a four-door taxicab appearing in Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2
The Taxi goes on to appear in the 3D Universe and HD Universe. It is one of the only vehicles to appear in almost every title in the Grand Theft Auto series. The Taxi does not appear in Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 or Grand Theft Auto: London 1961: instead, fittingly, the London Cab takes its place.
Design[]
Grand Theft Auto[]
The Taxi in Grand Theft Auto is depicted as a four-door sedan with taxi liveries and accessories. There are three versions of the Taxi, each one seen in each of the three main cities:
- The Liberty City version is a variant of the Portsmouth.
- The San Andreas version is a variant of the Vulture.
- The Vice City version is a variant of the Flamer.
Grand Theft Auto 2[]
The Taxi in Grand Theft Auto 2 assumes the design of a classic checker taxi, with a checkered stripe crossing the roof longitudinally.
Performance[]
The Taxi's performance in the 2D Universe is generally undesirable due to their mediocre performance. While differing between cities and partially based on muscle vehicles, the taxis featured in the first Grand Theft Auto are generally slow, but compensate with good steering. In Grand Theft Auto 2 the opposite is the case, with moderate speed but sluggish controls, inferior to the Taxi Xpress. The renditions in both games have moderate crash endurance.
