Sentinel design influences

While I can see the inlfuence from Buick, I also see a strong influence from BMW, particularly with the GTA:VC version of the Sentinel. It reminds me of a 7-series, e.g. a 735 or 740, with the XS possibly being an upgrade to a 750iL or something similar...what does everyone think? This is particularly evident in the grille: note how it slopes back toward the car as you go from hood to front bumper, just as BMW grilles used to back in the mid-80s. BMW

I think the Sentinel's in GTA III and GTA SA were based on the E34 (1988-1996) BMW 5 series. The Sentinel from GTA VC looks like the E28 (1982-1988) 5 Series. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_5_Series

The Sentinel in GTA IV is probably the new BMW M3. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M3

Comparison

Well the reason I don't think that it is a BMW is because the lights aren't round. Buick Centuries also have that weirdly slanted grille. The name also sounds vaguely similar. There also might be a possibility that it is a mix of the two.

STD

On the back of the spoiler in GTA4, it says 'STD: Sentinel Tuning Division' but the article says it could be aftermarket. STD sounds like an in-company tuning division, obviously. Ess-Tee 11:41, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Separate XS

I think the Sentinel XS section should be separated into it's own article. Just because it has pretty much the same model with little difference doesn't mean they should be counted in one. The fact that when you enter the XS variant in-game pops up a different name means that it should have it's own article. (IMO) -- GTA 4 PC 11:28, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

I agree. --DT-boy 11:38, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
But what about the Sentinel XS in GTA IV? It is just a regular Sentinel with a spoiler and different badging, no performance difference. So it just says "Sentinel" when you enter it. Maybe have this mentioned on both pages or something.--Thescarydude 14:08, 10 June 2009 (UTC)
Yep. Maybe a mention about a Sentinel XS lookalike in IV that appears as a regular Sentinel when entered. --GTA 4 PC 21:12, 10 June 2009 (UTC)

The Name

According to some online dictionaries Sentinel means Guard this is refferenced on Liberty City Stories because all of Mayor R.C Holes Guards drive Sentinels. can I add the fact about the name to the trivia section.Andrew nicholson 16:44, July 24, 2010 (UTC)

the sentinel is like the most coolest and luxury car in gta history! seriously

GTA IV Sentinel- Not an M3?

Don't mean to start a flame war, but I think the Sentinel in GTA IV is actually a 2003-2005 BMW 330ci ZHP, and the Sentinel XS is the M3. The ZHP came with M-Tech bumpers and has a similar design to the Sentinel, as well as boasting improved performance over its lower models. This is just a theory, as the presence of the Sentinel XS and its STD badging seem to hint that it is the M3, and the regular Sentinel is a lower performance model like the 330ci.

And again , some sort of "genius" said that it's rear lights are based on the Oldsmobile Intrigue SERIOUSLY ???

I think that they are based on the '96 M3.

Main picture

I think that a GTA V Sentinel should be the main picture, rather than the GTA 4 model, as there are at least 3 good frontal shots. Leon Davis (talk) 07:55, September 2, 2013 (UTC)

Can somebody update the main image, as three clear shots are available and V has been released now Leon Davis (talk) 18:56, September 23, 2013 (UTC)

Glitch?

A while back, I saw a Sentinel (roof down) in Rockford Hills with a woman passenger in the back seat. When I stole the car, she did not get, not even when I customized the car. Is this a glitch, or is this intended? Spiky Eared Pichu (talk) 13:51, November 1, 2016 (UTC)

Generations

The first 2 pictures say 1st gen for the IV version and 2nd gen for the V version, even though they should be gen 4th and 5th, respectively. —Preceding unsigned comment added by [[User:|]] ([[User talk:|talk]] • contribs) Please remember to sign your talk page messages with ~~~~.

Hyundai Equus? (GTA III)

So I was watching a Doug DeMuro video about the 2002 Hyundai Equus that was only sold in the Korean market, and the rear end of it immediately stuck out to me:

Equus:

Sentinel:

Sentinel-GTA3-rear

The shape of the brakelights match up with the Equus, and even the shape of the rear passenger windows! Also note the badging in the same places as the Equus (front/back), as well as the chrome strip just underneath the trunk.

Yes, there are a lot of differences between the two cars. But we're talking about a game from 2001, where 3D models had to be limited in regards to the level of detail. So the thin chrome strip on the Equus became a hilariously oversized rectangle, and the "step" from the quarter panel to the trunk was either a design choice or left out because of said limitations.

It's a long shot, but I've never seen another car that resembles the Sentinel from GTA 3 so much as the Equus! I would add this to the page as information, but figured I'd at least back up my reasoning here on the talk page before doing so.

What do you guys think? CarLuver69 (talk) 03:12, October 6, 2018 (UTC)

Game 2001 + Obscure car 2002 = No. Smurfy: illuminate - communicate - spectate 03:27, October 6, 2018 (UTC)
To be fair, this particular body style wasn't unique to 2002. In fact, a version of it was shown at the New York International Auto Show in April of 2001. In the US, Hyundai advertised it as the LZ450 and not the Equus -- and only as a "study" to see what the reaction would be. I won't argue it's an obscure car, but it looks like we're within the right timeframe of GTA III's development. CarLuver69 (talk) 11:17, October 11, 2018 (UTC)
I'm not trying to persuade anyone here, but this is as close as I can get to the Equus using only the body lines with a couple of adjustments: Equslol I won't lose any sleep over anyone disagreeing with me, but I've yet to see any definitive proof the rear end is based on a BMW :P CarLuver69 (talk) 11:52, October 11, 2018 (UTC)
