A splash screen is a sequence of images that pops up on the screen while a city borough loads up. Splash screens always consist of official illustrated Rockstar artwork with text welcoming the player to another borough of the city.

Splash screens have appeared in most 3D Universe Grand Theft Auto games with the exception of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for having more advanced hardware than the previous titles, and Grand Theft Auto Advance for replacing the splash screens with a simple "fade to black" effect.
