Template:Next-Gen Template:Infobox vehicles The Vapid Speedo Custom is a custom van in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of the After Hours update.

Design

Grand Theft Auto Online

The vehicle is essentially a custom variant of the Speedo, which features highly-advanced modifications, including an array of Gunrunning camo liveries and mounted weapons.

The van received various changes in comparison to the regular Speedo, where the front bumper features a shinier, chromed finish around the lower half, as well as a singular flat meshed grille in place of the horizontal grille (likely to make room for the grille plating from the armor upgrades). On the sides, the arches, particularly the rear ones, are extended and more defined, while the front quarter panels have vented sections with three horizontal chrome separations on them. The rear end of the van retains most of the features from the regular Speedo, but the whole rear bumper has a shinier, chromed finish.

The primary color of the vehicle is applied on the entire body, while the secondary color is applied on the stripe passing around the sides and rear, just below the lower body line. It retains the same wheel design, being five-spoke angled rims with medium-profile tires.

The van can be equipped with either two front-facing machine guns, a remote machine gun turret resembling a Browning M2HB machine gun, or a remote minigun turret similar to a GAU-17/A gatling gun.

Performance

Grand Theft Auto Online

Vehicle

The Speedo Custom is overall superior to the original Speedo, with a slightly higher top speed and acceleration, together with better braking and handling overall. Still, the seemingly lack of traction renders the van difficult to accelerate after being stopped, and the relatively light mass renders it unable to push other cars easily. The wedge provided by the "Heavy Armor Plating" upgrade allows the vehicle to push cars away slightly better, although it is still not very effective due to the light weight.

Like the regular Speedo, the vehicle is powered by a high-torque V8 diesel engine, with a 5-speed gearbox in a rear-wheel drive layout. The engine sound is the same from the regular Speedo, the Clown Van and other similar vans.

Armor

Despite having three different levels of armor upgrades, none of them make the van any more durable, as the van will still explode with only a single explosive near the body, unless the player is in a Sell Goods mission. However, the cabin has bullet-resistant windows similar to vehicles like the Schafter V12 (Armored) and the Baller LE (Armored), giving the occupants slight protection against most firearms before being shattered.

Weaponry

The Speedo Custom has access to an array of weapons, all of them operated by the driver:

  • Machine Guns: the first option is a set of two front-facing machine guns, which perform the same as those of vehicles like the Blazer Aqua and the Ruiner 2000. They have decent firepower against players and vehicles with none or light armor, but will struggle against heavily-armored vehicles.
  • Remote .50 Cal: the second option is a remote machine gun, which works identical to the one found on the TM-02 Khanjali. It has a 360 degree coverage and moderate fire rate, but deals high damage per round against most targets, able to take out most NPCs in a single shot and rival players with two or three rounds. It is also powerful against unarmored vehicles and aircraft in general, enough to set them aflame upon damaging them considerably.
  • Remote Minigun: the third option is a remote minigun, which works identical to the dual swiveling miniguns from the Weaponized Tampa. It has a 360 degree coverage and a high fire rate, compensating for the lower damage per round in comparison to the remote machine gun. The minigun can also blow up vehicles upon damaging them considerably.
  • The vehicle has the option for installing Proximity Mines, which behave the same as any remote explosive and are operated by the driver. These mines are a bit stronger than their hand-held counterparts and are also limited to five active mines. Caution should be taken when using it, as it can potentially damage or destroy the vehicle.

Note that, while both remote turrets have limited elevation angle of about 20 degrees, the remote machine gun is able to aim up to 40 degrees with the "Hood view" enabled, making it deadly against targets from almost above the van.
