Cangelosi was the Boss of the Gambetti crime family, based in Liberty City, from an unknown point in time until his death in 1978. He was succeeded as Boss of the Gambettis by Jon Gravelli.

Trivia

Cangelosi's name may be a reference to Sonny Corleone, a character from the 1972 film The Godfather.
