Sheila Stafford is a radio guest on the Pacemaker show on Public Liberty Radio in Grand Theft Auto IV.
She is voiced by Rachel Allen.
History[]
Background[]
Stafford, in 2008, is the public relations director at Betta Pharmaceuticals.
She appears to serve as a personification of the United States opioid crisis.
Events of Grand Theft Auto IV[]
During her interview segment on Pacemaker, Stafford constantly tries to promote her corporation's prescription medications at high prices, urging listeners to request them and disregard their potential effects. She introduces herself by giving Ryan McFallon a large sample pile of "breakthrough new drugs".
Stafford claims everyone would rather deal with life by "swallowing a magic pill every day", and that increasing the dosage of prescription drugs will result in an "inverse reduction of problems", adding that "it's science, really". She also supports the War on Drugs and shows severe disdain for the black market and those who turn to it because of the high price of prescriptions, expressing no sympathy and stating, "We have pills that can save your life, and you're whining about the cost? It makes me want to throw up!" She justifies her company's prices by stating they are needed to "fly doctors to golf retreats in the Caribbean".
She then divulges that she once allowed a woman to die from a heart attack because she feared the woman had no insurance and would sue. She did not even bother to call for an ambulance for the woman, claiming she "left it to the professionals" and that the woman "learned a very valuable lesson" in death.
She suffers from chronic back pain due to her large breasts, but instead of getting reductive surgery she prefers to take painkillers, since it's "easier". She says the same about why she doesn't get therapy for her depression.
Throughout the show, Stafford, like fellow guest Wilson Taylor Sr, is dismissive and condescending towards Mason Waylon for his abnormality and instability, something that steadily provokes him. Eventually, Stafford is taken hostage by an incensed Waylon, who drills holes into both her and Taylor's heads, presumably killing both.
