- The "Delivery Boy" livery that can be applied to the Futo GTX is based on the Toyota AE86 driven by Takumi Fujiwara, a tofu delivery driver, in the Japanese street racing manga series and anime Initial D. The new livery changes the car's badge name from "Futo" to "Tofu".
- The Japanese sign on the livery reads "Stance Andreas", contrary to the manga sign which reads "Fujiwara Tofu Shop".
- Futo GTX's default rims are also called "Fujiwara", which is the surname of the protagonist from Initial D.
- During the raid at the IAA Facility in The Agency Deal finale, behind a locked door, the player can spot one of Avon's Juggernaut clones from The Doomsday Heist.
- In the mission Planning Work: Access Point for The Prison Contract, the player must steal a stunt ramp from a movie set. The movie scene can be at Richards Majestic Productions in Backlot City or on location at the LS River and is a recreation of a scene from Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
- The Unnamed British Director represents James Cameron.
- A generic NPC dressed as Arnold Schwarzenegger's T-800 (The Terminator) will be armed with a Sawed-Off Shotgun. This NPC is virtually unkillable, returning to life a few moments after any normally fatal injury.
- Two or three Haulers and two Wolfsbane motorcycles will be present.
- This was also previously referenced in the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas mission Just Business.
- Camhedz is a in-universe ROM hack of the Badlands Revenge II arcade machine that will be added in Grand Theft Auto Online. It replaces all sprites and scenarios from Badlands Revenge II with Manhunt characters and references.
- The arcade's name is a reference to the Camheds, a gang of secret agents (wearing security cameras on their heads) that was originally planned to appear in Manhunt, but was later dropped in the final version.
- The character in the arcade's menu is the Manhunt protagonist James Earl Cash holding a Sawn-Off Shotgun. The camera on his head is also a reference to the cut Camheds gang.
LS Car Meet[]
The LS Car Meet takes place in a abandoned Pißwasser warehouse building that resembles the Alameda Square buildings in Los Angeles, where the street racer gethering takes place in the first Fast & Furious movie. Some famous vehicles from movies and TV series can appear randomly at the LS Car Meet.
- Vapid Ellie - Eleanor from Gone in 60 Seconds.
- Vapid Hustler - Ford 5-Window Coupe from American Graffiti.
- Dinka Jester Classic - Toyota Supra from The Fast and the Furious.
- Vapid Flash GT - Ford Focus RS from Ken Block's Gymkhana video series.
The Contract[]
- Many of Franklin's items, pictures and memorabilia from Grand Theft Auto V can now be found in his office at the Agency, including his "Los Santos Owns You" poster which has been cut and re-arranged into "You Own Los Santos".
- The Agency Security Guard and Receptionist use a wallpaper on their computers from Red Dead Redemption 2.
- A portrait of President Hardin, President of the United States prior to the events of Red Dead Redemption 2, appears on a one-hundred dollar bill in the player's agency office with the "Power & Money" art scheme.
- Gold and platinum records presented by OG Loc, Madd Dogg, Rochell'le and Love Fist can be found on the walls of the Agency and Record A Studios.
- After starting the mission Short Trip - Fire It Up, Franklin will say CJ's famous line from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (Oh, shit. Here we go again...). Furthermore in the same mission, when burning the Vagos weed farm, Franklin will mention Flint County and make a cross-universe reference to the mission Are You Going to San Fierro? from GTA San Andreas, where CJ must burn The Truth's weed farm.
- The in-game time in this mission freezes at 4:20pm.
- In the mission Short Trip - OG Kush, Lamar drives a Youga Custom made entirely of weed. This is a clear reference to the 1978 movie "Up in Smoke" starring Cheech & Chong, two stoners who unknowingly smuggle a similar stepvan that has Cadillac quarter panels on its rear and it's entirely made of "fiberweed".
- While smoking weed in the Smoking Room at the Record A Studios, Franklin and Lamar will refer to many events from GTA V, and mention Simeon Yetarian, Denise Clinton, Tonya Wiggins.
- In one of their conversations, Lamar will make a meta-joke about Franklin's and the GTA Online Protagonist's role as a protagonist in GTA V and GTA Online respectively, and Lamar's role as a "sidekick" for Franklin in GTA V and being the comic relief in both games.
The Criminal Enterprises[]
- The in-game description of the Greenwood makes a reference to dialogue from the mission End of the Line in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, where CJ tells Sweet: "I can't believe that you bought the same bucket-ass car man!" when he notices he bought a new Greenwood after his previous one was destroyed during the mission Reuniting the Families.
- The license plate on Agent ULP's Greenwood reads "29ULP408", a reference to Grand Theft Auto IV's release date: April 29th, 2008.
- Agent ULP's dialogue references the events of Grand Theft Auto IV on three occasions during the Operation Paper Trail.
- He mentions his previous hired employee Niko Bellic, though not by name, to the GTA Online Protagonist as "one of their predecessors" as an IAA hired agent.
- During the same dialogue, ULP makes a reference to his own dialogue from the GTA IV mission Wrong is Right, telling the protagonist they "can't always tell who the good guys are. I'm not a good guy. But I'm fighting with them."
- Furthermore, after the GTA Online Protagonist's final mission as a sworn-in IAA agent, they receive a final phone call from Agent ULP telling them they're on their own from now on and wishes them the best, saying the exact same phrase he told Niko on his last phone call to him in the GTA IV mission, That Special Someone – "You're out. You've done good things for us, and we are greatful. From here in, you're alone. Goodbye."
- The tattoo "Sniff Sniff" features Piggsy from Manhunt. The tattoo's name references the last scene in Manhunt, where "Sniff Sniff" can be seen written in blood on the walls inside Starkweather's attic.
Los Santos Drug Wars[]
- During the Fooligan Job "Heavy Metal", the two characters and the blue and white Surfer with the
TW1NPN3S
plate at the delivery destination are an Easter Egg referencing a scene in Back to the Future where Doc Brown and Marty are attacked at Twin Pines Mall by two Libyans in a blue and white Volkswagen Type 2. - When inside the Acid Lab, Mutt might say "I hope you're getting high on our supply. That's like the first rule, or something." A clear reference to the phrase said by Frank Lopez in Scarface.
- There are a few nods to Grand Theft Auto 2 in this content update:
- The character of Labrat may be a reference to Dr. LaBrat, the boss of the Sex and Reproductive Systems (SRS) company and leader of the SRS Scientists from Grand Theft Auto 2.
- The Taxi livery for the Broadway may be a reference to the official artwork of the Taxi Xpress from Grand Theft Auto 2.
- The main antagonistic group in this content update are members of a pharmaceutical company, which could be a nod to the Zaibatsu Corporation's Z-Men from Grand Theft Auto 2.
- Two liveries for the Surfer Custom reference two prominent hippy vans in the Grand Theft Auto series:
- The "Peace and Love" livery for the Surfer Custom is the exact same as the one used on El Burro's Love Wagon from the original Grand Theft Auto.
- "The Mothership" livery for the Surfer Custom is the exact same as the one used on The Truth's Camper in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which he calls "The Mothership".
