Scotland is a constituent country that is part of the United Kingdom.
Owing to the series' Scottish origins, many references are made to the country through the games. The city of Dundee, the Grand Theft Auto series' birthplace, is known as the gaming capital of Scotland, and is referenced multiple times throughout the series.

- BUCKFAST is a cheat code in reference to Buckfast Tonic Wine, notorious in Scotland for its association with ned culture and antisocial behaviour.

- IAMDAVEJ is a cheat code in reference to David Jones, the Scottish co-founder of DMA Design and producer of the first Grand Theft Auto.

- ILOVESCOTLAND is a cheat code for stormy weather.
- The traffic cone on the head of the Liberty City War Memorial statue references the long-standing tradition of placing a traffic cone on the equestrian statue of the Duke of Wellington in Glasgow, Scotland.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City[]
- Love Fist are a Scottish metal band.
- Billboards advertising Dundee vacations are found at the Escobar International Airport.
- "Japanese Boy" by Scottish singer Aneka is played on Flash FM.
- DEEPFRIEDMARSBARS is a cheat code in the PC release of the game that makes Tommy Vercetti appear overweight, referencing the real-life deep-fried Mars bar, a controversial Scottish dish popularized in the mid-1990s and criticized for its unhealthiness.
- The Leaf Links name appears to be a reference to the Leith Links park in Edinburgh, Scotland, which is one of the earliest known places where golf was played.
- The name of Wave 103 is a reference to Wave 102, a former radio station in Dundee, Scotland.

- San Andreas is the old Spanish name for Saint Andrew, the patron saint of Scotland.
- During Wear Flowers in Your Hair, The Truth ponders if John F. Kennedy lives in Scotland with Janis Joplin.
- In some safehouses, there are guidebooks for different places, including Edinburgh, Scotland.
- There are vehicle number plates bearing the names "Glasgow" and "Rangers", the biggest city in Scotland and a major football team from the same city. Several car number plates from Exports and Imports also make reference to several former Rangers players. Another custom plate in the game references Celtic, another major team from Glasgow and arch rivals to Rangers.
- Dundee, a city in Scotland, features in the name of the Let's Go to Dundee!! album advertised in-game.
- Juank Air flight destinations to Leith are listed on the monitor in the interior of both Los Santos International Airport and Francis International Airport during In the Beginning.
- "Movin' on Up" by Scottish alternative rock band Primal Scream is played on Radio X.
- The adjacent Kincaid Bridge and Garver Bridge in San Fierro are based on the adjacent Forth Bridge and Forth Road Bridge, respectively, which span the Firth of Forth in the Central Belt of Scotland.
- The Calton Heights district of San Fierro is named after Calton Hill and Calton Square in Edinburgh, Scotland, the former location of Rockstar North's offices.

- The SMG has "Made in Scotland" writing, despite being made in USA in real life (as the MP-10), as an Easter egg.

- Jens GIN-GER is a beverage brand parodying the Scottish soda brand Irn-Bru.
- The beer brand Jakey's Lager features the Scottish saltire hidden in its logo. The name is also a reference to the Scottish derogatory slang "jakey", to refer to a homeless alcoholic.
- "Labour of Love" and "Wishing I Was Lucky" by Scottish pop groups Hue and Cry and Wet Wet Wet are played on Vice City FM.
- The Fud brand of laundry detergent shares its name with "fud", a vulgar term in Scottish slang with a meaning similar to "c***".

- The port of registry of the Daisy Lee is Pumpherston, which is also a village in West Lothian, Scotland.
- The Hawick area of Los Santos is named after the town of the same name in Roxburghshire, Scotland.
- The Venetian building in Vespucci Beach has a Scottish flag on the front; this is a reference to Rockstar North.
- The texture file for the Scottish flag in GTA V is also twice as big as all other flags in the game, bigger than more common flags such as the American flag or the San Andreas Republic Flag.
- A piece of random pedestrian dialogue has the person saying, "A day like this calls for a little haggis."[1] Haggis is a well-known Scottish food.
- Love Fist are a Scottish metal band.
- The surname of Elisa Macallen is of Scottish or Irish origin.
- The Marshall has the customisation option of hanging the Scottish flag at the back.
- Saul Tires is a tire company whose name is a reference to Scotland's flag, the saltire. Furthermore, the Scottish flag can be seen in Saul Tires branding on their signs.
- Sandcastles dotted across San Andreas' beaches have a small Scottish flag on top.
- "All the Things She Said" by Scottish band Simple Minds is played on Los Santos Rock Radio.
- The song "Recover" by Scottish synthpop band Chvrches is available on WorldWide FM.
- The name of The Sundae Post restaurant is a reference to The Sunday Post weekly newspaper published in Dundee, Scotland.
- Both the "Nevis" and "Cairngorm" wheel options are named after Scottish mountain ranges.
- At the Hill Valley Church cemetery in Pacific Bluffs, a dog can be found moving about the grounds. If the player follows it, the dog eventually stops in front of a headstone with a bouquet of flowers placed beside it. This is a reference to Greyfriars Bobby, a terrier from 19th-century Edinburgh, Scotland, who spent 14 years guarding his owner's grave until his own death in 1872.
