Scope Out: Submarine is a setup mission for The McTony Robbery, featured in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of The Chop Shop update.
Description[]
The mission is started at the Planning Computer inside the Salvage Yard, and is available after choosing one of the target vehicles available.
This mission is the first preparation needed for The McTony Robbery. The player is tasked to photograph and identify a few points of interest and send the images to Jamal's phone so he can set up a planning board at the Salvage Yard.
Jamal instructs the player to scope a Kosatka submarine owned by Merryweather Security at their headquarters in Elysian Island, in order to plan the infiltration on a similar Kosatka submarine owned by tech billionaire Tony McTony for the robbery, which will occur in the middle of the ocean while it is underwater.
Once they arrive at Merryweather's headquarters, they must photograph three different points of interest – the submarine's landing pad used to store vehicles inside the Kosatka, the submarine blueprints, and the sonar jamming equipment used to hide the position of McTony's submarine.
With the photos received, Jamal informs the player that Tony McTony uses his own submersible to get inside the Kosatka's moon pool while it is underwater. Jamal tells the player that the landing pad will be their way out once the submarine is above the surface.
Jamal notices the emergency doors on the submarine blueprints, and he is worried that the submarine crew might seal the doors at the first sign of trouble. He suggest they bring a cutting torch to the robbery in case that happens. They will need McTony's security team uniforms to blend in with the crew inside the submarine. In addition, they must find a device to override the submarine's sonar jammer in order to reveal its location.
After the scoping is done, Jamal will tell the player to return to the Salvage Yard to see the planning board for The McTony Robbery.
Once the mission is completed, the player does not need to do it again for any subsequent robbery replays. However, if the player wishes, they can repeat the mission as many times as they would like. Jamal will not give any further instructions in later attempts.
