The Satellite Relay Station (also known as the Radio Telescope Array or Satellite Communication Complex) is a location in Grand Theft Auto V, located in the Grand Senora Desert, Blaine County.

Description

The observatory is located in Grand Senora Desert, Blaine County right on the county border, just north-east of Bolingbroke Penitentiary and directly over Route 68 from the Yellow Jack Inn. It is a named Radio Telescope Array as a spawn location in Director Mode.

It is an array of 6 radio telescopes generally directed north-east. At night, the dishes are colorfully illuminated.

In the original version (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3), an FIB Granger and FIB Buffalo may spawn at the site, with several FIB agents nearby, while in the enhanced version, a white Washington and Burrito may spawn, with several scientists.

After The Doomsday Heist update for the enhanced version of the game, one of the 6 satalites' bases is built upon with a surrounding wall and an inaccessible door. This is used during The Doomsday Heist and can only be seen in the enhanced version of GTA Online.[citation/verification needed]

Influence

It is likely based on the real life Combined Array for Research in Millimeter-wave Astronomy, located at Owens Valley Radio Observatory in Southern California.

Events of Grand Theft Auto Online

During The Doomsday Heist, it is revealed that the IAA have a secret base under the complex. It also reveals the facility has some kind of defense turrets on the exterior (not visible outside the mission [vague]).
