The Royal Pain is the drivable tank appearing in Grand Theft Auto: London 1969.

Design[]

Unlike the tanks featured in other Grand Theft Auto games, the Royal Pain does not resemble a traditional tank. It is an enlarged, armored, and caterpillar-tracked Jug MkII, with gold plating and a mounted Rocket Launcher on the roof.

Performance[]

The Royal Pain remains functionally identical to the Tank of Grand Theft Auto, being able to run over and instantly explode any other vehicle it comes into contact with. As one can expect, the Royal Pain is quite slow and heavy, but is well armored and its weapon is highly destructive against standard vehicles.

Trivia[]

  • The base of the Royal Pain, the Jug MkII, is also popular with the London police since their standard vehicle is also a modified Jug MkII in Grand Theft Auto: London 1961.
  • Unlike the police cars of the game, the police radio chatter of the London police doesn't start when you enter a Royal Pain. The "Queen's Theme" (as designated by the game soundtrack listings) is a piece of patriotic, "British-sounding" music, which plays when entering the Royal Pain or a Royal Stretch.
  • The fact that the Royal Pain is a modified civilian vehicle, and not a military vehicle per se, would suggest that it is intended not for warfare but urban use such as riot pacification, with lethal force as an option for emergencies. The fact that one guards Hyde Park means that it is perhaps a relic of the Dad's Army from the last war.
  • There is an unusable gun next to the main cannon.
