Reg Dunlop is a cut character scheduled to appear as a key character in Grand Theft Auto Advance.[1] He is the first iteration of Vinnie.

Description[]

Reg is the best friend and mentor of Ned "The Kid" Braden, the scheduled protagonist in the early iterations of the game.

Reg's name originates from the cast of characters from George Roy Hill's 1997 film Slap Shot (in his case, Paul Newman's character "Reggie Dunlop"), suggesting this name was always a placeholder name.

History[]

Events of Grand Theft Auto Advance (2003)[]

Reg follows a similar path as Vinnie, doing jobs for the Mafia, acquiring fake IDs for both him and Kid to start a new life, and being killed in a car explosion, although with multiple differences in the outcome of the storyline.

Leftovers[]

The variables for mission dialogue prompts in Vinnie's introductory mission Jump Start are labelled as intro_reg* in the game files (observed via hex editing), referring to Vinnie's original iteration as Reg. Vinnie is referred to as "reg" in the variables up until Truth Revealed, meaning this early name survived up until late development.
