Finders Keepers is a Random Event in Grand Theft Auto Online, added in the San Andreas Mercenaries update during Independence Day 2023.
Description[]
Like other random events, Finders Keepers can start appearing 20 minutes after a Free Mode session is initiated. When approaching within 400 meters of one of seven locations, the GTA Online Protagonist can trigger the event, but will only be alerted to the presence of the event with a blue dot on the map when they get within approximately 200 meters of the vehicle. Other players can see the same random event marker simultaneously if they are nearby. The event can be triggered invisibly if the player is engaged in other Free Mode work (e.g. sourcing or selling business supplies, heist set-ups) and the target vehicle will be set in motion but the marker will not be visible to that player until the work is completed. The event can also be triggered while other random events are in progress (e.g. while delivering an Exotic Exports Vehicle, chasing a Store Robber etc). The event will be marked on the players map as Vehicle.
Each location has a specific vehicle carrying a specific business goods type. The vehicle will be on the move with two gang members inside. It will travel a set path briefly then travel to one of fourteen pre-defined end locations. The vehicle will be driven aggressively, whether the player has engaged the occupants or not, overtaking, taking off-road shortcuts, and even performing U-turns after ending the pre-defined path. If it gets out of 200 meters range, the blue map marker will disappear, but the vehicle should still be travelling and if the player catches up again, the marker will reappear.
The player needs to eliminate the occupants and steal the vehicle within 15 minutes. A countdown timer will appear on-screen for the last 5 minutes for any players within range[vague] of the target vehicle. If players are already in possession of the vehicle when the time expires, they will be kicked from it and will be unable to re-enter the vehicle. The vehicle will not de-spawn until they leave the vicinity.
They will then be directed to deliver it to their business to resupply it. If they don't own that particular business, or if the business currently has full supplies, they will instead be directed to an alternate drop-off point. The player will gain a wanted level when commandeering the vehicle, and it needs to be evaded before the goods can be delivered. The player may receive a text message from LJT, Mutt, Agent 14 or Ammu-Nation on the way, congratulating them on acquiring the goods and directing them to the drop-off requirements.
If a player is a member of another player's Organization or MC when commandeering a vehicle, they will still be directed to deliver to their own business, not their leader's.
On the way, the player will be pursued by three waves of enemy chasers.
Vehicles/Locations[]
There are seven different vehicles, and each will spawn at the same location and have the same occupants and goods type.

Destination Points[]
If the vehicle arrives at its initial destination point, it will reset to another destination and will continue doing so until the 15 minute timer expires, when the blue marker will disappear for any player in range, and the event will end. If the player has not commandeered the vehicle before the time expires, but is still in view of it, the vehicle will continue aggressively driving along its path to the current destination point, and will either stop and remain in place until the viewing player leaves the area to force it to de-spawn, or it may convert to a standard NPC traffic vehicle, driving normally along randomized paths indefinitely.
Delivery[]
If the business type is owned and set up, and not already full of suppliesNote, the delivery point will be the player's own business. Otherwise, the player will be directed to an alternative drop-off point.
Goods Type | Delivery Location | Image | Map |
---|---|---|---|
Weapons (Bunker) | Ammu-Nation, Cypress Flats branch | ||
Acid | The Freakshop | ||
All others | Occupation Avenue Cypress Flats |

Oversights[]
- Even if the player owns a target business and has available supplies space, the player may be directed to the "unowned" drop-off.
- The "time expired" failure message may not display when a player is in the process of delivering the vehicle when the time actually expires.
