The Declasse Rancher is a two-door pickup truck appearing in Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes from Liberty City, and due to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI.
The vehicle returns from the 3D Universe where it also assumed the design of a two-door SUV.
Description[]
Grand Theft Auto VI[]
The two-door Rancher appeared in the September 2022 GTA VI leaks, across three clips. In one, a blue version is seen in front of the Bite! store at the Cipher Mall in Rockridge, Vice City, parked between two Burrito vans.[1] In a second clip, the vehicle is briefly seen parked in a parking lot in Hamlet.[2] In the third, it is shown driving on a highway next to the Starlet Motel, both in blue and black.[3]
The rear of the Rancher then appeared officially in the second trailer, shown driving down Interstate 97 in Vice City with two men sitting in its bed (0:35). It can also be seen parked next to a Blista Compact in the postcard for Port Gellhorn on the game's promotional website.
Influence[]
The HD Universe rendition of the Rancher, like its 3D Universe counterpart, is based on the 1973–1991 Chevrolet K5 Blazer, particularly the Cheyenne Trim available from 1989 to 1991. The slight lean of the rear of the cab resembles the 1980-1996 Ford Bronco. The headlights and tail lights seem to draw from the 1981–1993 Dodge Ramcharger.
Design[]
Grand Theft Auto IV[]
The Rancher features with a highly similar design to its 3D Univers counterpart, only now higher quality and slight cosmetic adjustments. It easily stands out among traffic in Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes from Liberty City for its tall stance and unique two-tone color scheme. Unlike the 3D Universe equivalent, the Rancher spawns by default in a pickup truck configuration, with a bed-cap available as a possible extra accessory. In total, there are five extra accessories that may spawn with the Rancher:
- A rear bed-cap.
- Rear mounted roll-bar with non-functional spotlights and card boxes in the bed.
- Two different front bullbar designs.
- A rear bedbox with several card boxes also in the rear.
The Rancher always appears in a two-tone color set, with the primary color used on the majority of the body, and the secondary color used in a solid stripe along the sides of the car, wrapping around to the rear tailgate. The Rancher has 6-spoke alloy rims wrapped in high profile off-road tires, with knobbly treads and wide profiling.
Grand Theft Auto VI[]
The overall design of the Rancher appears to have notably changed in Grand Theft Auto VI; with adjustments being made to the detailing of the vehicle. The rear bumper has been slightly updated, and now holds the license plate for the vehicle as opposed to it being mounted on the rear tailgate. The taillights appear to have been redesigned, more closely resembling the taillights seen on the Rancher XL in Grand Theft Auto V and Online. Other detailing updates include new body-colored wheel arches and an updated secondary color stripe design.
Performance[]
In Grand Theft Auto IV, the Rancher is not an on-road performance oriented vehicle. Its suspension consists of solid axles front and rear, as opposed to the independent suspension on more refined SUV's and pick-ups. This layout, coupled with a potent four-cylinder engine, means that on-road cornering is an erratic affair, with plenty of sliding and body roll.
However, the old-fashioned suspension, together with 4WD and an easily controlled engine, starts to pay off when the vehicle is taken off-road. In the hands of a skillful driver, the Rancher is an excellent off-roader. The high ground clearance means boulders are negotiated with ease. The solid axles keep the vehicle planted, although the driver must always be wary of the risk of a roll-over (due to the high center of gravity).
The vehicle features a modeled twincam inline-4, laid longitudinally in a front-engine, all wheel drive layout. The vehicle also features a large rear diff and silenced exhaust system.
