Payphone Hit: The Popstar is a mission featured in Grand Theft Auto Online as one of the Payphone Hits in The Contract update. It is a Free Mode job that can be conducted in any session type by answering a ringing payphone either randomly encountered or requested by calling Franklin Clinton.
Description[]
And now he wanna do some reputation management, so he can buy his way into being the next big pop star. He got a label and a song that's all bought and paid for, he got a ad space and social media campaign ready to fuckin' go. He's all set to scoop a number one single when it drops next week.
Now, I know what you thinking: another manufactured pop star, so what? Who cares? Well, our client works at the record label, and he got some nice intel... the label sunk everything they got into this lil' son of a bitch. And if he has an accident, not only will the world be a better place, but the label fixin' to go bankrupt. And our client just bet against them big.
So look, we make the stock crash, our clients get some zeroes added on to their bank account, and we get a slice of the motherfuckin' pie. Now let's go put this lil' evil motherfucker in the wrong kinda headlines.”
The target is driving around Los Santos in his customized Annis Euros. Franklin orders his assassination on behalf of an insider trader at his record label.
Vehicle Assassination Bonuses[]
Bonus Conditions[]
After receiving the target location, Franklin sends a text message spelling out the Bonus criteria. All scenarios involve use of a different vehicle.
Franklin will then text again and say that Imani has located the necessary vehicle and a search location is shown:
- Truck Cab
- Mile High Club construction
- Alta Construction Site
- Police Cruiser
- Vagos Lowrider
- Los Santos Department of Water & Power, near the LS Car Meet.
- Corner of South Shambles Street and El Rancho Boulevard in Cypress Flats.
The player simply needs to find and steal the appropriate vehicle and then intercept the target. While they will not usually attract negative attention for taking the provided vehicle, the Lowrider is the exception.
Once aware of the player, the target will drive at high speed. If the player finds it difficult to keep up with the Euros or to get it into an ideal position, they may want to consider shooting out the Euros' tires so the target is likely to go into a spin-out.
Truck Cab[]
Once the truck cab is collected, the player needs to ram the Euros repeatedly, preferably pushing it against a wall, until it is destroyed.
Note that the requested truck cab is mandatory for the assassination bonus.
Police Intimidation[]
Once a Police Cruiser is collected, the player needs to follow the target closely with lights and sirens activated.
A proximity circle will be shown on the minimap and an intimidation meter will be shown on the lower right of the Heads-Up Display and once filled, the target will panic and crash in a fiery explosion. Care should be taken to stay away from the target's car, as it will propel itself at high speeds and will explode on contact with any obstacle, including the police car the player was using.
Lowrider Drive-by[]
The location of two Vagos lowriders, a Buccaneer Custom and Chino Custom, is given, of which there are five Vagos collectively standing around the two cars. After The Criminal Enterprises update, if the player approaches the cars, the gang members will warn them away; getting in a car will cause them to become hostile and start shooting, so the player may wish to go ahead and take them out first before stealing a car.
With a lowrider collected, the player needs to go to the target and kill him in a Drive-by shooting. As this method can leave the Euros in one piece, it can be driven by the player afterward, but cannot be kept.
Bonus Failure Consequences[]
A 3 star wanted level will need to be evaded.
