Paramedic is an emergency vehicle-based side mission available in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
Description[]
In order to start the mission, the player must enter an Ambulance and press the button shown on the instruction text (platform dependent) to toggle the side mission on or off.
Once the mission is started, the player is given the location of a patient in a random neighborhood of the current city or region, and a time limit on screen below the HUD. The player must drive the Ambulance to the patient's location, pick them up and deliver them to the hospital within the time limit to complete the level.
For each new level, an additional patient is added to the radar to be picked up. As the Ambulance has only three seats available for the patients, it will be necessary to make multiple runs to complete a single level after level 3. The number of seats available is displayed below the timer.
After picking up any patient, a time bonus is given to the player, increasing the time limit of the current level.
The side mission can be failed by ending the side mission, leaving or destroying the Ambulance, killing one patient, which can occur after numerous bumps (which hurts the patient, costing the player time) or running over patients, and being killed or arrested. Failing the paramedic side mission results in the player having to start from the first level.
In order to achieve the 100% Completion requirement, the player must complete 12 levels in a row. If the mission is cancelled or failed, the player must restart from the first level.
Exploits[]
The region of Whetstone is considered a separate region from Flint County and San Fierro.
If the player starts the Paramedic mission in this region, all patients will spawn in the small town of Angel Pine, the one and only inhabited zone in Whetstone, and in the same vicinity of the Angel Pine Medical Center (defined as a possible drop-off point for the Paramedic side-mission), allowing the player to complete the side-mission faster.
Rewards[]
The following formulae can be used to calculate the money earned on any level, as well as the total money earned during the mission after completing a level.
Level X = $50 * X2 Total Money Earned after Level X = $25 * (X/3) * (2X2 + 3X + 1) Bonus Cash Reward for Completing Level 12 = $5000
| Level | Cash |
|---|---|
| 1 | $50 |
| 2 | $200 |
| 3 | $450 |
| 4 | $800 |
| 5 | $1,250 |
| 6 | $1,800 |
| 7 | $2,450 |
| 8 | $3,200 |
| 9 | $4,050 |
| 10 | $5,000 |
| 11 | $6,050 |
| 12 | $12,200* |
| Total | $37,500 |
Completing Level 12 of this side mission unlocks the following rewards:
- Additional $5,000 cash bonus (on top of the $7,200 from completing Level 12)
- Max Health Increase (the player's Max Health is increased to maximum)
- Savior achievement/trophy (PS3, Xbox 360, PS4 and Definitive Edition)
Trivia[]
- Due to a glitch, two patients may sometimes spawn inside of each other while standing on the sidewalk. However, if the player drives the ambulance up to them, they may pop out of each other and enter the ambulance like normal.
- Also, if Carl rolls the ambulance onto its side for a period of time all patients will get out and no longer need to go to the hospital, when the ambulance rights itself, he can carry on with the mission.
- In the iOS version, if Carl activates the mission near the All Saints General Hospital in Los Santos, it will be impossible to complete it farther than level 10, because the game will crash during level 10 or 11. This was tested in version 1.02.
- If a paramedic mission is started any recruited gang members will cease to be recruited, therefore if the player enters an ambulance, starts the Paramedic mission, cancels it and leaves the ambulance, the gang member sitting in the passenger seat will get in the driver's seat and drive the ambulance away.
