Panjit Gavaskar (पंजीत गावस्कर) is an Indian DJ for Radio Del Mundo, a radio station in Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories.
He is voiced by British actor Hajaz Akram.
History[]
Background[]
As a DJ for a world music station, Panjit constantly speaks of his native India and his brother-in-law who works for an airport and his cousin, Rajiv, who is a taxi driver. His world beat music reminds English-speaking people of Pakistanis performing music for a native audience.
Gavaskar potentially breaks the fourth wall by suggesting that "In a past life, I was in Liberty City, but... maybe in the future? Oh no, I think this Hummus is going bad, I'd not normally see tracers, bollocks!". Among Panjit's humorous commentary include lines like "Rajiv Gavaskar, my dirty cousin, you were always a greedy, fat and nasty little boy, now you are a greedy, fat, and nasty little cab driver! Your wife is only sacred because she is the cow, and how you milk her! You're a disgusting ponce Rajiv!" Also saying "They say in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king, but what about the land of the dumb? Who is king there?" and "Whoa! What a fantastic record that was! Like a fertility dance! God I feel so fertile now, I want to bang a statue!".
Panjit is also possibly of British descent, as he can be heard using the terms "ponce" and "bollocks" on one occasion each.
Concepts Panjit Comments On[]
- Democracy - Compares it to a goddess with three breasts; it seems like a good idea at first, but you'll get carried away and get slapped.
- Winter - He complains about people who move to India who mourn about not having snow.
- Rock and Roll Music - He calls it "music for the genitals" while world beat music is "music for the soul".
Trivia[]
- Before "Neeve Nanna" plays, Panjit gives a message from his cousin "driving a cab right now in Shoreside Vale", in which Panjit says that Rajiv hopes "people can lose a bit of weight as you're ruining the suspension in his cab", mocking obesity issues in the USA.
