Northwood is a neighborhood in Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars located in the northern region of Algonquin, Liberty City.
Description[]
Northwood in the GTA IV beta.
Northwood is bounded to the west by the West River, to the east by the Humboldt River, and to the south by Wardite Street. The Northwood Heights Bridge connects Algonquin with Bohan, starting from the north end of Frankfort Avenue in Northwood. Northwood is bordered to the south by both North Holland and East Holland.
Northwood seems somewhat deprived and poverty-ridden. It is mostly made up of small businesses, tenements and public housing projects. The neighborhood's demographic is mainly African-American and Latino (especially Dominican). The crime rate is high, with drug dealing and gang violence commonplace on its many housing projects. The area is controlled by a diverse mix of gangs, including the North Holland Hustlers, Uptown Riders, Angels of Death and Northwood Dominican Drug Dealers.
Influence[]
Northwood is based on a mixture of Manhattan neighborhoods Inwood and Washington Heights, with its name inspired by the former and its nickname of "The Heights" taken directly from the latter. However, the vast majority of its buildings, much like those in North Holland and East Holland, are derived from the greater Harlem area in Manhattan.
