Mystique is a character who is mentioned in the Vice City Inquirer, the manual for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
History[]
Background[]
Mystique is a prostitute who lives in Downtown Vice City.
In 1984, at the age of eighteen, she and Destiny won a Vice City Lotto Scratch Off Jackpot of $250,000. She split the money with Destiny, although by the end of the week she had spent her half on spa visits, tube tops, a Walkman, and 'massive amounts' of pharmaceuticals. After two weeks, Mystique returned to prostituting. She tells her story to the Vice City Inquirer.
Mystique is quite probably the storyline character Mary (Destiny being Mona) using a fake name for the Vice City Inquirer article.
Trivia[]
- Mystique (Mary) is featured prominently on the box art for both the original release of GTA Vice City Stories (bottom right) and Grand Theft Auto Double Pack: Liberty City Stories & Vice City Stories (main character). She was originally named "Trixie" by artist Stephen Bliss.
- Mystique looks similar to a Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories in-game prostitute and multiplayer character Jenny Tulls.
- Since the game is set in 1984, her name is possibly a reference to a game company that made many pornographic video games for the Atari 2600, some of which are Custer's Revenge, Beat 'Em and Eat 'Em, and Bachelor Party. However, it is more likely that she is named after the shapeshifting mutant of the same name from the X-Men comic books, due to her association with a character named Destiny (which is also the name of an X-Men character).
