Mr. Fuk's Rice Box is a Korean restaurant featured in Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes from Liberty City. It is located in the Koreatown enclave of Alderney City, Alderney, on Boyden Avenue.

Description[]

The restaurant serves as a front for the Korean Mob, featuring an elaborate interior with a two-floor, oriental-themed dining area that includes a central atrium. Upon entering, there is a reception area with seating and a bar. The manager's office, which includes an accessible computer, and the kitchen can be reached from the second floor.

Niko Bellic[vague] has the option to take friends or girlfriends out to this restaurant. The restaurant is a preferred outing for Roman Bellic, Brucie Kibbutz, and Dwayne Forge.

In The Ballad of Gay Tony, the restaurant's back lot is the designated drop-off point for all Drug Wars side missions set in Alderney.

Events of Grand Theft Auto IV[]

Mr. Fuk's Rice Box and its interior play a role in the mission Dining Out, where Niko is ordered by Gambetti Don Jon Gravelli to kill Kim Young-Guk, a North Korean gangster, at the restaurant. After Niko enters the building and requests to see Young-Guk, a firefight erupts, prompting him to chase Young-Guk through the upstairs kitchen and out the back, ultimately leading to his death as he tries to get away.

Trivia[]

  • Mr. Fuk's Rice Box may have been originally intended to be a Chinese restaurant. This is suggested by the signs inside that read "Authentic Szechuan and Peking cuisine". However, due to its location and being used as a front for the Korean Mob, it likely shifted to a Korean restaurant during development, with its interior remaining unchanged.
    • The word "Fuk" also does not exist in Korean phonetics. It does, however, exist as a Chinese character (福) meaning "fortune", further suggesting that it was intended to be a Chinese restaurant.
  • The usage of "Fuk" in the name appears to be a reference to the curse word "fuck", pronounced "fook" by Jon Gravelli and the police scanner. This seemingly deliberate pun stands out when Jon Gravelli has a coughing fit and says "fuck" right after mentioning Mr. Fuk's Rice Box in the mission Dining Out.
  • "Rice box" is a slang term for an East Asian woman's vagina.
  • The restaurant shares similarities with the real-life Pyongyang restaurant chain, a North Korean international restaurant chain linked to alleged money laundering schemes by the North Korean government. The in-game restaurant is used as a front for the Korean Mob, which has origins in North Korea.
