Formatting

The lead section is the opening description to the article subject. It should entice readers to continue reading while offering a snapshot that is informative on its own.

An introduction to the subject should:

  1. Clearly and succinctly define the subject (in bold text) and its appearances.
  2. Use plain language and avoid jargon.
  3. Use a neutral tone and third person narrative.

In order to preserve informative and concise lead sections, we often ignore the rules; if the lead section becomes overloaded and cluttered, it makes the subject more difficult to understand and discourages users from reading further.
