This page documents the Official GTA Wiki Manual of Style on disambiguation pages.
Formatting[]
A disambiguation page contains links to multiple similarly-named articles. They are designed to resolve confusion when multiple articles share the same title or a similar topic.
As a general rule of thumb, a disambiguation page should only be created when a title may refer to three or more separate subjects, however there may be exceptions for more notable articles (such as Los Santos or Michael Townley).
A disambiguation page should:
- Be clearly marked as such (using the {{Disambiguation}} template).
- Contain a list of subjects being disambiguated, with links to their separate pages.
- Summarize each of the subjects to avoid further confusion.
Naming convention[]
See also: Manual of Style:Naming conventions
As the idea of a disambiguation page is to clear up confusion and make reaching the intended article as easy and seamless as possible, the title used for a disambiguation page should also be clear and concise: it may sometimes be required to break the rules to achieve this.
Disambiguation pages should be named after the most common name (see MOS:COMMONNAME) used for the subject. For example, where confusion lies amongst characters named Michael, Mike or Mick, the most recurring and given name for them is Michael.
Sometimes the common name for a subject is already taken by an article (typically the first chronological instance of a subject using that name). If the common name is already taken, the disambiguation page may be suffixed with "(disambiguation)" (for example, Import/Export (disambiguation)).
Lead section[]
See also: Manual of Style:Lead sections
Following the disambiguation notice, the lead section should outline the subject (or subjects) in bold and clearly identify the cause of the confusion.
List[]
A simple list of disambiguous pages should be formatted as bullet points (see MOS:LIST). There is no requirement to use a heading for a single list of subjects.
The order of the pages should generally be alphabetical, however where there is a clear notable subject (such as Michael De Santa on the Michael disambiguation page), the most notable subjects may be placed at the top of the list.
- FBI Rancher - a black four-door variant of the Rancher used by the FBI in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
- FIB Rancher - a variant of the Cavalcade used by FIB in Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.
- Police Rancher - the police variant of Rancher XL used by North Yankton State Patrol in Grand Theft Auto V.
- Ranger - the police variant of the Rancher in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.
In cases where all the pages are of the same subject but in separate universes (such as Admiral or Vice City), the order of the pages should be chronological by universe:
- Admiral (3D Universe) - A mid-size car appearing in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
- Admiral (HD Universe) - A full-size car appearing in Grand Theft Auto IV, Episodes from Liberty City and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.
Sectioned list[]
If the list of subjects becomes exhaustive, it may be necessary to separate it into sections with headings (see MOS:HEAD).
The headings used for each section should follow the category branches (for example, Buildings, Characters, Locations, Vehicles, etc).
The order of sections should reflect that of the article type significance:
- Vehicles
- Gameplay
- Locations
- Buildings
- Characters
- Organizations
- Businesses
- Media
- Structures
- Weapons
- Items
- Animals
- Real-world articles (people, media, companies, etc)
Vehicles
- Angel (3D Universe) - a motorcycle appearing in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
- Angel (HD Universe) - a motorcycle appearing in The Lost and Damned and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.
- Angel (van) - a delivery van appearing in Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, based on the Burrito.
Locations
- Angel (neighborhood) - a neighborhood in Grand Theft Auto: London 1969 and London 1961.
Organizations
- The Angels - a motorcycle gang featured in Grand Theft Auto.
- Avenging Angels - a gang featured in Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories.
- Angels of Death - a motorcycle gang featured in Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and Grand Theft Auto V.
Businesses
- Angel-Os - a cereal brand appearing in Grand Theft Auto Online.
