For the 2D Universe weapon with a similar name, see Machine Gun.
The Shrewsbury MG (Machine Gun) is a light machine gun that appears in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.
Design[]
Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
The overall weapon design is based upon the PKM, but with a belt drum from the RPD, and a shorter gas tube similar to the one found on AK-based weapons. The model lacks the bipod and carry handle commonly found on the PKM. The MG does however feature a four-sided handguard with Picatinny rails on each side, as well as a top picatinny rail on the upper receiver.
The gun comes with 54 rounds by default (a rather odd capacity, as the drum magazine appears to resemble 100-round magazines).
Performance[]
Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
With a base damage of 40, the MG is a rather powerful weapon that exceeds most firearms during early stages of the game, combined with its capacity of 54 rounds (with the option to increase to 100 rounds) and its fire rate of about 440 rounds per minute. However, against its main competitor, the Combat MG, the weapon falls behind in damage (which has a base damage of 45) and capacity (default magazine has 100 rounds, while the extended magazine has 200 rounds). Its fire rate is also lower than most fully-automatic weapons, slightly below the Carbine Rifle.
Although the scope attachment gives a slightly greater zoom, its lower accuracy and high recoil makes the gun limited for medium-range engagements, requiring short bursts to take out enemies at longer ranges. This is also attributed to the lack of a grip option, despite the ample rails on the handguard.
Like the Assault Rifle, it is chambered in a 7.62mm caliber.

Trivia[]
Grand Theft Auto V[]
- If attaching a scope to the weapon, then it will be fired from the shoulder like an assault rifle rather than being fired from the hip like normal. This also applies to other hip-fired weapons like the Micro SMG and Combat MG.
- When reloading, the process can be done almost instantly. If a player presses B (Xbox) or Circle (PS3) to reload and wait a second, then do a combat roll (Hold LT and Press X for Xbox and L2 and Square for PS3) they may notice the ammo counter has reset to 54 (or 100 if the extended magazine is attached).
- The buyable scope in the MG will have a green dot rather than a red dot. This also applies to the Advanced Rifle.
Grand Theft Auto Online[]
- A mounted version can be seen as the stock weapon of the Dune FAV, in the Gunrunning update.
