Trivia[]

  • In Grand Theft Auto IV, it is mentioned that both The Martin Serious Show and Conspire used to broadcast on LCFR.
  • The LCFR logo on the game's promotional website bears a resemblance to the former logo used by the BBC between 1971 and 1988.
  • The caller named Mack who wants to replace the Cathedral with the Opera house, claiming that "God" told him so, may be a reference to the anime, Serial Experiments Laine.
    • He claims that "what doesn't connect to the great computer will die."[1] references "The Wired", a virtual realm where "God" resides in, in which a character named Chisa Yomoda, who committed suicide in the anime; sends an e-mail stating they are still alive, just that they abandoned their mortal body to live in The Wired.
      • Lazlow questions him about this, asking him sarcastically if "God sent him an e-mail", in which Mack replies with "God" told him to.[2]
    • Mack also mentions "Cyberia," which is the name of a location in the anime which is where a major plot point happens, and is also the name of the world's first internet cafe, located in London, which may have just been a nod Rockstar North's roots.
    • The "Internet Terminals" that are used to "worship" the God that Mack talked about may also indirectly reference the large NAVI computer setup Laine created, in which she used to connect to The Wired.
    • Mack's claim that "God" told him to do it, with the side note claiming if Mack were to receive payment for getting his plans through, it would be because of him; is a reference to the "God" of The Wired. Throughout the series, it sees him attempting to convince Laine to join him through interventions, using the promise of unconditional love, romantic seduction and charm, and when all else fails; threats.
    • The anime was originally released through July 6, 1998, and concluded on September 28, 1998, however it was only in Japan. This may be anachronistic to the games timeline, as the anime only saw release in the US by 1999, a year after the events of GTA: LCS.[3]

  1. Mack: Oh, son, it's all pointy and official-looking! Ain't no one wants that! This is cyberbia, and what doesn't connect to the great computer will die. What folks want is a nice, big, post-modern square building with internet terminals and fusball tables to worship in.
  2. Lazlow: Alright, and how do you know this? What, did He send you an email?
  3. But going through with the topics of early Internet, it couldve been accessed online as well.
