Leftwood

Leftwood is a town in Grand Theft Auto IV and Episodes from Liberty City in northern Alderney. It is bounded to the north at Beaverhead Avenue, Flathead Road and Bridger Street (Westdyke), and to the south by Panhandle Road (Alderney City).

Description[]

Leftwood appears to be a fairly affluent town. Several luxury fashion and jewellery brands such as Gaulle and Enema are established in the commercial block bounded by Bridger Street, Sacramento Avenue and Manzano Road. Leftwood has a sizable Portuguese diaspora as evidenced by the Portuguese flags scattered throughout the neighbourhood and the bilingual banner festooning Leftwood Community Hall.

Influence[]

Leftwood appears to contain elements of towns from Bergen County and Hudson County in general. Its namesake is believed to be derived from Englewood, New Jersey, but bears more of a resemblance to the smaller, less-known town of Westwood, New Jersey. The township may most likely be based on the former, however, due to Englewood's dominance of fame over Westwood. It may also be based on Ironbound due to both areas having an evident Portuguese community.

Grand Theft Auto IV[]

In Tunnel of Death, Niko Bellic murders Aiden O'Malley as per Patrick McReary's instructions at the edge of a cliff on the west coast of Leftwood. His body tumbles down the cliff and falls into the ocean. It is recovered by police thereafter according to several news reports.
In To Live and Die in Alderney, Niko deposits Phil Bell (and Frankie Gallo, depending on whether he lives or not) in a car park behind the Pizza This... restaurant after escaping from the police.
