Checking In is the fourth of the Last Dose missions featured in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of the Los Santos Drug Wars update.
Description[]
After rescuing Labrat from FriedMind Pharmaceutical Corporation, Dax plans revenge on Isiah Friedlander.
Dax advises that he has discovered Friedlander is testing his new drug at Parsons Rehabilitation Center in Richman Glen and he and Luchadora get into his Journey II requesting the GTA Online Protagonist follow them there, mentioning some troupe members are already scoping out the site.
The player is free to get there before Dax, and on arrival finds two Fooliganz with a Glendale Custom already fighting against a number of Isiah Friedlander's Goons. Players can only lose a mission life during this phase.
Once the goons are eliminated and Luchadora and Dax are on the scene, the player attempts to break in through the front door which withstands their effort. It then opens with a small explosion and a blue gaseous cloud envelops the trio.
They immediately start to feel the effects of the drug and embark on a trip, with the camera subject to heavy effects and the steadiness of the player's aim severely compromised. Friedlander appears on the balcony outside his office above the main door and his voice is heard throughout as the player fights through 4 waves of enemies. Dax is armed with his Rocket Launcher and then a Pistol, while Luchadora uses a Pistol Mk II.
The player has access to a pre-defined set of modified Mark II weapons with unlimited ammo:
- Pistol Mk II
- Tracer Rounds, Mounted Scope, Flashlight, Compensator
- Combat MG Mk II
- Muzzle Brake, Full Metal Jacket Rounds, Grip, Heavy Barrel
- Special Carbine Mk II
- Grip, Armor Piercing Rounds, Muzzle Brake, Heavy Barrel
- Heavy Sniper Mk II
- Advanced Scope, Suppressor, Extended Clip
- Pump Shotgun Mk II
- Flechette Shells, Flashlight, Holographic Sight
All the weapons produce special effects when fired. When an enemy is killed, they disappear in a cloud of coloured smoke and respawn in another cloud.
Like other drug trip sequences, the player's HUD is limited, with no indication of body armor strength or health levels. Other players can still see a player's health bar if they aim at them. Players can use the interaction menu or Weapon Wheel quick actions to replenish health and armor, however if the player is "killed" before the end of the trip, they simply respawn in the air and fall to the ground near the pond outside the main entrance to continue the trip and team lives are not lost.
First Wave[]
The first wave can be either:
Clowns[]
Aliens[]
- At least 4 varieties of aliens
- Green alien bodysuit NPCs
- Space Docker
Second Wave[]
The second wave can be either:
Beasts[]
- Black and white Cougars
- Chimpanzees
- Bigfoot
Cravings (fast food)[]
Third Wave - Therapists[]
The third wave consists of multiple clones of Isiah Friedlander himself armed with Bullpup Rifles or a Golf Club. Another clone is at a DJ desk on a stage with two more dancing alongside.
Final Wave - Ego[]
The trio's trip culminates in a battle against clones of themselves, with waves of Dax, Luchadora and the player(s) attacking.
Clones are armed with:
- Player Clones
- Dax Clones
- Luchadora Clones
Eventually Dax realises that to end the trip, they have to die at their own hand. After giving in and allowing themselves to be "killed" by their own egos, the trip concludes. Similarly to First Dose 4 - Uncontrolled Substance, the mission passed screen is replaced by Trip Survived. If playing Hard Mode, there is a timer similar to First Dose 4 - Uncontrolled Substance and the player must progress through to the acceptance phase of the trip by killing a quota[vague] of each wave within the time limit.
If playing with multiple players, every player has to be "killed" to conclude the trip. As each player dies, they have an Out of body experience and will become spectators until the final player finishes.
I'm thinking no... C'mon! Time to die!”
If the players continue fighting, additional lines of dialogue will continue to prompt them to allow themselves to be killed.

Post-mission Phone Call[]
On return to Free Mode, the player awakes on Marlowe Drive and Dax will follow up with a phone call, unlocking Last Dose 5 - BDKD.
I gotta tell you, Freshmeat, Friedlander may be a human hemorrhoid, but he's got some good shit. I'm still getting some f'ed up visuals over here.
Now from what I remember, he's planning some kind of move to South America. I say no fucking way. We cut him off, take his whole stock as compensation, and leave him for the dogs. All we need is his location.
I'll see if I can get any of his goons to squeal... Get down here when you can.”
