Not to be confused with King of the Hill, a game mode added in 2019.
King of the Castle is a Freemode Event featured in Grand Theft Auto Online, added as part of the Freemode Events Update.
Description[]
All players in the session will receive a notification, notifying them that King of the Castle is available to start. A pre-defined location will be picked at random for the event to take place at, which will be marked on the map, with a unique purple "Castle" icon. A timer will also count down until the event will begin (assuming a player is at the location).
Once a player has arrived at the "castle", a points system will begin to count up. It will increase at over 1 point per second, points will only increase if the player remains in/next to (closely) the castle. The player has ten minutes to gain the most points.
The aim of the game is to gain the most points by being the "king" of the castle for the longest amount of total-time. The king must fight off any intruders to keep the points increasing at the same rate. A player who manages to get the castle at the same time as another will also get their points increased.
Intruders must attack the king, to have the chance to take the lead in gaining points. If the king is killed, they will respawn nearby, and the player who toke their place in the castle will begin to gain points.
Just like other Freemode Events, the top three players will be listed in the Gold, Silver, Bronze fashion. These top three players will receive the highest amounts of cash, with Gold earning double Silver's reward, and Silver earning double Bronze's reward.
