The Kanbu was born and raised in Liberty City, later becoming a high-ranking member of the Yakuza and important associate of Kenji Kasen.
Events of Grand Theft Auto III[]
The Kanbu was arrested for an unknown crime and was scheduled to go on trial before being broken out of a Liberty City Police Department prison cell by Claude on orders from Kenji. After rescuing the Kanbu, Claude drives him to the Hyaku Dojo in Bedford Point.

- In Kanbu Bust-out, upon arriving at the Hyaku Dojo, he will utter a line in Japanese: "金玉みてえな臭いすんな、この野郎" (in Latin alphabet: "Kintama mitē na nioi sun na, kono yarō"), which roughly translates to: "You stink like nutsack, prick!"
- This rather out-of-context speech is reused from one of many random dialogues spoken by Yakuza members in freeroam.
