Kakagawa (Japanese: カカガワ) is a Japanese electronics company that appears in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and the HD Universe of the Grand Theft Auto series.

Description[]

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas[]

In Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Kakagawa operates a large warehouse in the LVA Freight Depot of Las Venturas; however, not much else is known about the company.

Grand Theft Auto IV[]

In Grand Theft Auto IV, Kakagawa manufactures a wide variety of electronics, including computers, printers, hand dryers, police radios, cash registers, and jukeboxes, and has shipping containers across Liberty City. Their presumed American headquarters are located in Alderney City, Alderney.

Influence[]

Based on its branding and product line, the company is seemingly inspired by several Japanese electronics companies, such as Sanyo and Canon.

Name[]

There are several potential origins for the company's name:

  • The name may have been derived from the Japanese city of Kakegawa, where there is a factory that makes glass for televisions. It may also be a play on words for the Kanagawa Prefecture, a large prefecture including Yokohama City, just south of Tokyo in the Kanto Region of Japan.
  • In the Filipino language, "kakagawa" is a word that translates to "just made".
  • As "kaka" may have been derived from "cack", i.e. "shit", and as "gawa" means "river" in Japanese, the name may be a play on the phrase "shit creek". "shit creek" is derived from the Scottish term "up shit creek without a paddle", which means to be in a difficult situation without an easy solution.
