Junk is an energy drink and soft drink manufacturer appearing in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.

Description[]

Junk Energy sells caffeinated energy and sports drinks, marketing to an audience of extreme athletes and "adrenaline junkies" in the under-25 demographic. They make the claim that their drinks are a "healthy alternative to soda" and 100% safe for children, pregnant teenagers, and people with heart conditions, however, this is later stated to not be true. Junk also claims to not condone consuming it with alcohol, but the language used on their website to describe the feeling implies the opposite.

Junk is one of the sponsors for the North Point Trim Track in Paleto Bay, as well as the Fame or Shame TV show. Going to their in-game webpage www.junkenergydrink.com will lead the player to a link that shows all the stunt jumps over San Andreas.

In the Arena War update for Grand Theft Auto Online, one of the Arena War sponsor ads shown includes Junk, "The Half Time Quick Fix", and that the energy drink is available at the concession stands of the Maze Bank Arena. Later on in The Contract update, Junk Energy received a heavy rebrand, dropping the syringe logo in favor of the spoon logo, as opposed to previously using both interchangeably. The Contract update also introduced consumable Junk Energy drinks for the GTA Online Protagonist, taken from Junk-branded vending machines available in the player's Agency and Salvage Yard.

The San Andreas Mercenaries update later introduced Junk Energy Time Trials, a sponsored electric bike time trial race. In the Bottom Dollar Bounties update, Junk Energy replaced Dom Beasley as the sponsor for Parachuting jobs, as his death in Story Mode became relevant in this update's content.

Influence[]

Junk Energy Drink seems to be a parody of Monster Energy or Red Bull. The company's sponsorship of athletic endurance competitions and advertising of stunt elements is reminiscent of Red Bull's vast endorsement deals in various sports, especially racing, cycling, and association football. Junk's Grand Theft Auto Online rebrand has much closer influence to Monster Energy and Mountain Dew in its logo and can design. The logo's "The Quick Fix" tagline uses Bank Gothic which is the same Monster Energy uses on its logo for its tagline, the text also has a light grey outline just like the Monster logo.

The term "junk" carries multiple entendres; at face value it can be seen as a reference to the unhealthy nature of energy drinks. "Junk" is also a slang term for heroin, evidenced by the spoon/syringe incorporated into the "U", as well as the slogan "the quick fix." It could also be a take on the term "adrenaline junkie," or a compulsively energetic and adventurous person. Junk could also be a reference to the slang for penis. This is further supported by the syringe, which looks like someone masturbating.

Junk! The official beverage of living on the edge and extreme sports. We sponsor more athletes that end up paralyzed or dead than any other energy drink.

We have rooms full of advertising wonks whose only job is to come up with these slogans, because we are passionate about the under-25 demographic and their reckless lifestyle. You're the social media generation. You don't work hard but you play hard. You care about self expression but have no idea what it means.

Adrenaline Junkies Map[]

This website is the only place in-game that provides a map of all of the stunt jump, under the bridge, and base jump locations (though base jump locations are visible on the in-game map). The Adrenaline Junkies map does not update as the player progress through completing the events listed.
