Jefe ("Boss" in Spanish) is a character who is mentioned in Grand Theft Auto.
History[]
Background[]
Jefe is an associate of the Mexican gangster El Burro in San Andreas. While he is referred to as "Jefe" by El Burro, which means "Boss" in Spanish, he takes orders from El Burro and appears to be a close friend and an informant for his gang, implying that "Jefe/Boss" is just a nickname.
Events of Grand Theft Auto[]
In 1997, "Jefe" is first mentioned during Tequila Slammer - Phone 2: Mission 2, after the GTA Protagonist kills Paco under orders of El Burro. Jefe informs El Burro that he heard on the radio that a TV crew had filmed the protagonist killing Paco, and they must destroy the four TV Vans around San Andreas.
Later, El Burro tasks the protagonist with killing eight cops around the city in less than eight minutes in order to win a bet against Jefe. He also informs El Burro about a traitor dealing drugs behind his back, and provides Model Cars rigged with explosives for the protagonist in order to destroy a drug lab in Eagleside.
If the player fails certain missions, the mission failed messages from El Burro indicate that he sent Jefe to do the protagonist's job in their place.
