Investigation: Davis is a Data Leak investigation mission featured in Grand Theft Auto Online as part of The Contract update.

Description[]

“Hey. So the last lock we had on this copy of Dre's phone was in Davis. I set you up with someone who can help. Dude you're looking for, his name is Vernon. I'll explain on the way, let's roll.”

— Franklin's brief.

The player is called by Franklin Clinton who tells them that a copy of Dr. Dre's cellphone was in Davis. He instructs them to go meet his contact called Vernon, a Davis Neighborhood Family OG who can help with the investigation if they manage to help him first.

The player then meets Vernon and gets into his Cavalcade. He asks the player to help him and The Families interrupt a deal between the Aztecas and the Lost MC. The player then drives to the location of the deal.

At the location of the deal, several Families members will be waiting to ambush, and Vernon joins them. The player leads the ambush and takes out all the gang members around the site and on elevated areas. Once all enemies are killed, Vernon instructs the player to steal the meth equipment loaded in a Burrito van .

With the van taken, they must secure it to a drop-off while evading pursuing Lost MC members and later LSPD officers. If both factions are in close proximity, the officers will attack the bikers, serving as an opportunity to evade them easily and avoid the constant gunfire.

Once they manage to lose the enemies, they are instructed to drive the van to either a warehouse in Morningwood or the F. Clinton and Partner Safehouse in Hawick to complete the mission.

The Protagonist selects "South Central Leak" on their Agency computer.

The last lock we have on this copy is over in Davis. Like, five minutes from where I grew up. No place like home, right? Franklin's got some contacts that might help.

The Protagonist leaves the Agency. When replaying this setup, the dialogue starts from here. The Protagonist gets a call from Franklin and Imani.

Franklin: Hey, so the last lock we had on this copy of Dre's phone was in Davis. I set you up with someone who can help. Dude you're lookin' for his name is Vernon. I'll explain on the way, let's go.

The Protagonist makes their way to one of two locations where Vernon is waiting: on Forum Drive in Strawberry, or in front of the BJ Smith Recreational Center in Chamberlain Hills.

Franklin: 'Ey, we goin' back to the hood for this one. Shit, I don't know who in South LS goin' be stupid enough to fuck with somebody who stole something from Dre, but if anybody can find out, shit, it's Vernon. He's a Davis Neighborhood Family OG, for real. Now he gon' want something from us first, so start there, but he will come through, trust me. Just do not mention Lamar, please.

Franklin: Hey, what's up? You wanna head over to Davis? Man, that's the last place I got the lock on that Dre copy. I set you up with the old contact, Vernon. Lemme fill you in on the way.

Franklin: 'Ey, look, now I know this hood. My auntie still lives up in Strawberry. Me and Lamar, we used to sneak over this way all the time and fuck around... So, I had a word with some Davis neighbors, you know, Families people, to see if they can find out some shit about Dre's phone. This dude Vernon? That's the guy that can help. But we gon' need to scratch his back before he can scratch ours, but we should be good. Fair warning, though, man, he's old school, even for me.

Vernon:

'Ey! You lookin' for me? I'm Vernon, reppin' DNF... you with Franklin, right? I hope he told you what's goin' down, 'cause you're gonna need to bring it.

Vernon:

Here's where we're goin'.

Vernon:

We bustin' up a deal. You show up for us, we show up for you. 'Cause I got some leads on this phone you after.

The protagonist drives to a location marked on the map.

Vernon:

Hey, so if you know Franklin, do you know Lamar Davis? He ain't anywhere near this Dre shit you workin' on, is he? Take it from me, you wanna keep that fool clear.

The Protagonist and Vernon arrive at the site of the deal, either in Cypress Flats or La Mesa.
