Not to be confused with Hipsters.
Once upon a time hippies were freaks, Goddamnit! Murderous cult leaders trying to get into the record business... Now they've all got MBAs, trust funds, jobs at Eyefind.
These fuckstains are corporate America in a stupid fedora, peddling watered down acid like it's a fucking herbal remedy.”
The Hippies are a minor gang featured in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.
Overview[]
The Hippies have a fascination with extra-terrestrial life as they are seen at alien-related landmarks. They also seem to have some minor involvement in drug dealing as they are seen dealing with gangs such as The Lost MC.
They are easily distinguished with sleeveless shirts, tie-died clothing or wearing no shirt, bandannas, tattoos on their chest and back, and necklaces. Women members are often found wearing bikini tops and floral skirts or pants and may have facial paint. They can wear band t-shirts featuring acts like Softly Softly Catchy Monkey, Sorry Commode and Fatal Incursion.
Behaviour[]
Outside of their mission appearances, Hippies are normally not aggressive towards the player. They are unarmed and normally run away when the player shows the first sign of aggression. They may respond aggressively to a player stealing their vehicle.
Influence[]
The Hippies are inspired by the American subculture of the same name.
Dax's description references Charles Manson.
Background[]
Events of Grand Theft Auto V[]
Franklin can meet a hippie named Omega who appears as a Stranger/Freak. During the mission Far Out, he will be talking to himself while searching for aliens with his device. He then tells Franklin that he made contact with aliens a couple days before. He then tells Franklin that a spaceship fell from the sky in San Andreas and scattered pieces across the state. Next, he then sends Franklin to retrieve 50 spaceship parts (this starts the mission The Final Frontier). Once the player retrieves 50 parts, he will get a text from Omega to meet him at his trailer. Once there, he will show an object that resembles an UFO which starts flying like a spaceship. Next, Omega leaves the garage, saying "see you on the other side!".
Events of Grand Theft Auto Online[]
In War and Pieces, one of their members is in possession of a brick of Cocaine, which is retrieved by the GTA Online Protagonist for Gerald. In Hippy Hunting, a hippy carrying Weed will be driving in a Surfer, which is stolen by the Online Protagonist.
In certain resupply missions for motorcycle club methamphetamine businesses, they play as enemies. They are seen cooking meth at their trailer park, and will chase the player in Biftas.
In 2020, during the events of The Cayo Perico Heist update, English Dave's personal chakra stones have been stolen by his shaman at the Senora Desert Trailer Park, and he hires the GTA Online Protagonist to recover them.
In 2021, they can be found hanging around drug deals between the Fooliganz and Street Punks or Rednecks.
In 2022, during the events of the Los Santos Drug Wars, Dax sees them as a competitor in the LSD manufacture and distribution business and asks the player's help in dealing with them in First Dose 5 - Make War not Love. Gerald also sees them as competition and the player can raid their Stash Houses and steal business supplies from their safe. They can also be found buying drugs from players.
