Happiness Island is an insular neighborhood in Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars located off-shore from Algonquin, Liberty City.
Description[]
Happiness Island is located at the confluence of the West River and two unnamed tributaries between Alderney and Algonquin. It officially appertains to the borough of Algonquin, and is the city's southernmost point and westernmost landmass - as Alderney is a separate state.
The island is home to the iconic Statue of Happiness on top of an imposing star-shaped pedestal which the player can access at all times. The monument is preceded by a large plaza with walkways spoking off from it, enclosing vast lawns. Five warehouses can be found on the southeastern portion of the island, along with a row of Forklifts and a Faggio. The island has two piers, one on the western shore and another in the eastern shore.
Happiness Island is very much indissociable from Grand Theft Auto IV as it is not only a prominent landmark of Liberty City, but also the place where the last mission of the game unfolds and draws the storyline to a close.
On dialing 911 at Happiness Island, the operator will respond favorably to any of Niko Bellic's demands for help, but no rescue will arrive considering the geographical nature of the area. It is for the same reason that, on gaining a wanted level, only Police Mavericks and Annihilators will reach the player.
Influence[]
Happiness Island is based on Liberty Island, complete with its own version of the Statue of Liberty, the Statue of Happiness.
Events[]
Events of Grand Theft Auto IV[]
It is on Happiness Island that Niko Bellic will alight his helicopter and hunt down Dimitri Rascalov or Jimmy Pegorino depending on the ending chosen by the player.

Oversights[]
Grand Theft Auto IV[]
- While no police will respond via land vehicles if the player has a wanted level on the island, this does not appear to stop the LCPD and NOOSE from attempting to do so. If the player looks towards Algonquin proper, they may see police vehicles driving into the river in the act of making an irresponsible beeline to the player. This glitch is more apparent when the player has a high wanted level.
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars[]
- There are no vehicles on Happiness Island, and no normal way to transport them across. However, there are two bugs the player can exploit to spawn them. Firstly, if the player hails a taxi, sets a GPS waypoint for the dealer Osama and skips the journey, the Cabbie will sometimes respawn upon the island. Alternatively, if the player obtains a two star wanted level upon the island, a Police Patrol may spawn on the island chasing the player.
Trivia[]
- Niko Bellic will briefly hesitate before giving his location when dialing 911 or when Kiki asks for his location while being on Happiness Island.
- According to radio news reports, a beached whale washed up on the Island in 2007[ref?].
