It is a small hand-held device, heavily based on the Metal Detector used during The Cayo Perico Heist, but with an antenna included and buttons replaced.

The Metal Detector itself is harmless, as it does not have any sort of offensive capabilities. The device can only be equipped during a mission. As it cannot be equipped outside the circumference of the search zone, its effective range cannot be measured.
