The Golden Pier is a recreational and retail complex in Grand Theft Auto IV and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars located in Algonquin, Liberty City.
Description[]
The Golden Pier is a vast builing complex dedicated to leisure and retail located on an unnamed road which spans the Westminster and The Meat Quarter neighborhoods of the Algonquin borough of Liberty City. The road stretches from Kunzite Street to Hematite Street and runs parallel to Union Drive West.
The main building, divided into seven bays, is home to a Memory Lanes bowling alley (complete with an air hockey table in The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony, and a mini Burger Shot restaurant) and a Burger Shot outlet at the northern end.
The Golden Pier contains three piers: the northernmost pier features a one-court Rubin Swinger Basketball Courts (sic) and a Skate park; the central pier serves as an extension to the main building; while the southernmost pier is home to the Golden Pier Swingers Golf Club. The Golden Pier Swingers driving range is also available for use in The Ballad of Gay Tony.
Influence[]
The pier is based on Chelsea Piers[1] located in New York, United States.
Skeletal remains of one of the Golden Pier's former entrance buildings at the Westminster side mirrors that of Chelsea Piers' Pier 54. The primary Golden Pier building apparently shares a likeness to the new Chelsea Piers building down to the choice of colors, and the design of its facade and entrances. The presence of a driving range and skateboard park is also similar.
Like most buildings in the game, the Golden Pier's size is significantly smaller than that of Chelsea Piers', being shorter in width. Whereas the main Chelsea Piers complex building branches its structural form out to two piers, the Golden Pier building only branches out to one; the wing containing the Chelsea Piers lighthouse is absent in the game.
