The Ghost (known as GHOST missing in the PS2 version of GTA III) is a boat featured in Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories.
Design[]
Grand Theft Auto III[]
The Ghost in GTA III is essentially an unmarked, modified, civilian variant of the Predator police boat, lacking the twin machine guns of the police variant. The color of the boat is "police car blue" in the PS2, Xbox, mobile and The Definitive Edition versions, and black in the original PC version. The Ghost boat shares many similarities with the Predator. The mobile version of the Ghost also features a bow rail, a small ladder on the back, and buoys attached to the sides.
Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories[]
The same boat exists in GTA Liberty City Stories with the "Ghost" name in-game; however, it cannot be encountered during normal gameplay. The boat has various visual glitches, including an entirely missing stripe on the hull of the boat, allowing the player to see right through it; this suggests that the vehicle was originally planned to be included in the game, but was subsequently left unfinished during development. It appears with a "police car blue" paint job on all versions of the game.
Performance[]
The Ghost has the same performance statistics as the Predator, being a fast and responsive boat, with average acceleration.

Prominent Appearances in Gameplay[]
- The Ghost appears only in GTA III during the mission Gone Fishing, in which Claude is tasked with killing Ray Machowski's Partner while he is fishing near Portland Rock. If Claude chases Ray's partner long enough, he will beach the boat on Portland Beach. The boat will remain on the beach after the mission (providing it is not destroyed by explosives) and can be pushed back into the sea and sailed, but it cannot be saved.
Oversights[]
- In Grand Theft Auto III, if the player manages to push the Ghost to a garage in an attempt to save it, the garage door will open and close for it initially; however, when the door reopens, the game will completely freeze or crash.
- However, this does not seem to be the case when playing the game on PCSX2, or when playing the PS4 version or The Definitive Edition.
- The Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories version of the Ghost contains numerous visual glitches. Its model was left unfinished and was never intended to be spawned during normal gameplay.

Trivia[]
- The reason the name "GHOST missing" appears in the PS2 version of GTA III is because a valid GXT name is not assigned to the boat, so it displays its game name ("GHOST") with the word "missing".[1] Rockstar fixed this on the other platforms and assigned a proper in-game name to the boat. This affects all other vehicles with no valid GXT names.
- The reason the Ghost boat is black on the PC version of GTA III is because in the
carcols.datfile of the game, the color value is set to blue; however, the game engine reads the value as black.
