This page documents the Official GTA Wiki Policy on warning users.

Policy[]

Warning refers to giving users notice of actions which do not comply with the GTA Wiki Policy. Only Staff members are allowed to warn users.

A warning is typically instated when a user ignores previous instructions to abstain from their actions or if their actions do not constitute an immediate block. Warnings are used to provide users with a chance to familiarize themselves with the policy, with the primary goal of preserving the quality and integrity of the GTA Wiki.

Warnings[]

There are several different Warning templates which can be used to a warn a user for different infractions:

A standard warning template {{Warning}} allows the Staff member to provide their own reason for the warning. For example, {{Warning|Edit warring}}

You have been warned for violating the Policy. If you repeat your actions, you will be issued with a block.
The reason given is: Edit warring
Staff member did not leave a signature —Preceding unsigned comment. Please remember to sign your talk page messages with ~~~~.

A bad image warning template {{Warning Bad Image}} can be used to warn a user on their recent uploaded file(s). The template allows the Staff member to select one (or multiple) reasons for why their recent upload did not comply with the File upload rules. Information on how to properly upload files is also provided.

You have been warned as one the image(s) you uploaded has/have been considered to violate our File upload rules, for one of the following reasons:
  • Poorly named
  • Incorrect/lack of license
  • Low quality
  • Duplicate file
  • Irrelevant to the article where it was uploaded
  • Contained a watermark.
Please make sure you read the File upload rules to learn how to properly name and license your images, and all the protocols about uploading images.
You are still free to upload images; however, please make sure they are up to standards! Continued uploads that do not comply with the policy may be deleted and result in a block.
Thank you!

A vandalism warning template {{Warning Vandalism}} can be used to warn a user for vandalism.

You have been warned for violating the Policy.
At least one of your recent edits appears to be an act of vandalism, and has been reverted. If you continue to vandalize any pages, you may be blocked.

Reasons for warning[]

There are many reasons a user may be blocked from editing the wiki. This list includes some of the most common reasons.

  • Vandalism - deliberately damaging an article's content, such as partial or entire content removal, or defacing of existing content.
  • Manual of Style - repeatedly ignoring style guides and rules on articles, file uploads and other page types.
  • Edit Warring - continuously reinstating or reverting of misleading, misinforming or otherwise inappropriate content.
  • Incivility - any behavior, communication, or action that is disrespectful, offensive, or harmful to other users.

Warning protocol[]

Staff members should ensure that warning a user is fair and consistent, maintaining the collaborative and constructive environment of the wiki while addressing disruptive behavior effectively. Staff members are expected to adhere to these guidelines when issuing warnings and handling related matters.

  1. Issuing warnings with reason: Staff members are encouraged to provide a reason for a warning when using the {{Warning}} template.
    1. Additional relevant information may be included underneath the message to provide clarity and open discussion if necessary.
  2. Removing warnings: Staff members should not remove warnings given to users without a valid reason or discussion among other Staff. The rationale for removing a user's warning should be clearly communicated, and any disagreements among Staff members should be resolved through discussion.
  3. Warning other Staff members: In situations involving warning other Staff members, it should be dealt with appropriately and, if absolutely necessary, raised via the Community Noticeboard.

Appeals[]

  • Users are able to discuss their warning via their own talk page; users may appeal their warning by replying to their talk page {{Warning}} notification.
  • It should be noted that a warning does not impact a user's ability to edit and is merely a way of communicating expectations, so appealing a warning is typically needless.
