This page documents the Official GTA Wiki Policy on content related to modifications.

Policy

As a general rule, content related to Modifications is not permitted on GTA Wiki. This includes the coverage of content related to game modifications, including but not limited to mods, cheats, hacks, and unofficial modifications made that may violate the End User License Agreement (EULA) or Terms of Service (ToS) of any Grand Theft Auto game.

Prohibited modification content

  1. Documentation of unauthorized modifications: The GTA Wiki shall not document or provide detailed information about unauthorized game modifications. This includes mods that alter the game's code, add or modify content, or enable cheats that were not officially released by the game developers.
  2. Promotion of illegal activities: The GTA Wiki shall not promote or endorse any content or activities that violate copyright laws, terms of service, or other applicable laws and regulations. Documentation of game modifications that facilitate cheating, hacking, or any other form of illegal activity is strictly prohibited.
  3. Content that compromises the integrity of the game: The GTA Wiki shall not document or endorse game modifications that fundamentally alter the intended gameplay experience, disrupt online multiplayer environments (such as GTA Online), or compromise the stability and security of the game or its associated platforms.

Permissible modification content

  1. Officially supported modifications: The GTA Wiki may provide information about officially supported modifications, expansions, or updates released by the game developers or authorized third parties, provided that they adhere to the terms of service and applicable legal requirements.
  2. Culturally-significant modifications: GTA Wiki believes that documenting content surrounding the modding culture and community of Grand Theft Auto is acceptable, so long as it is done so in a coherent and cohesive way. For this reason, significant modifications may be documented as subpages of the Modifications article (such as Modifications/Hot Coffee).
  3. Documentation of modding tools and resources: The GTA Wiki may include general information, tutorials, and resources related to modding tools (such as OpenIV and CodeWalker), platforms, and techniques. However, any content that promotes or encourages the use of such tools in an unauthorized or illegal manner is strictly prohibited (see #2 of "Prohibited modification content").
  4. Coverage of file data and file type documentation: Coverage of file data, including documentation of file types, behavior and purposes, is permitted on the GTA Wiki, provided it adheres to copyright laws and is presented in an educational and non-promotional manner.

Advisory

  • Articles that cover modification-related content should include a {{Modifications}} notice at the top of the article, where possible.
  • Content pertaining to modification tools and file documentation should be written in a neutral tone and presented in an educational manner.
