The Freight Train[1] is a tank car in Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online.
Design[]
Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
The train car is a traditional tank car with access ladders on either side and walkways on top (a rather unusual feature for North American tank cars, although they seem to be inspired by older grain hoppers operated by the Canadian Wheat Board). Tank cars appear to lack any proper port to load/unload the chemicals.
The tank car is only available in a red/orange color (which is actually a texture applied over the whole body, as the files indicate it spawns in white), and it bears the Stream Line and White Bolt logos. Tank cars can spawn with wellcars, but they never spawn with boxcars.
Behavior[]
Grand Theft Auto V and Online[]
Like the Freight Train, the train car will simply push or phase through any obstacle on the tracks, and while it can explode[ref?], it remains on the railway tracks at all times, without causing interference to the train cars behind it. The player can jump and stand on the train car while it is moving, which makes for a great way to lose a wanted level, as the player can usually lose the cops when the train enters a tunnel. Care should be taken when jumping towards the freight cars or the locomotive, as the character may fall off the train. Technically being a vehicle, it has its own handling line, which is derived from the Freight Train.
Static Variants[]
Static props of the tank car can be seen in train yards and sidings around the state, which seem to assume a more realistic design (evident by the upper ports and smaller platforms).
- The first one is a black car based on the standard North American DOT-111 tank car. This car can be found as a static object in train yards and sidings. These have a park brake wheel on one end.
- The second one is a white car identical in design to the black car but is slightly shorter. Again, these have a park brake wheel on one end.
- The last is a rusty wrecked car reminiscent of the two previous cars, but much older and slightly larger in appearance. It can be found as a static object along the abandoned rail line and rail yard in El Burro Heights and in scrapyards across San Andreas.

Trivia[]
Grand Theft Auto V[]
- During the mission Chop, one of the tank cars from the scripted train D hangs from to evade Franklin and Chop lacks access ladders. The same car will be seen again once the cutscene ends, before opening the static boxcars.
